The “DarkSide” ransomware hackers of Colonial Pipeline
Looks like they just reaped in $4-$5 million for their crime
They sent shockwaves into our economy reminding us how easy it is to bring us
to our knees
And not to now being caught should embolden them and others to launch ransomware attack sprees
Maybe our politicized DOJ and vaunted politicized FBI
Could spend more time on hacking than conservative expressions to defy
We are in the midst of trying to debate the amount and allocation of a massive
infrastructure spending bill
Colonial Pipeline was a wakeup call for more computer security to prevent our
recovery from going downhill
Given choice to spend dollars on bridges or roads or preventing infrastructure
hacks
Priority for the latter to deter and prevent more crippling ransomware attacks
Or like the tidal wave of frivolous lawsuits launched against small businesses
for inadvertent technical violations of the ADA
The new business normal will across all businesses to regain access to
computers needed to stay in business ransomware they must pay
But now instead of a couple grand to dismiss those nuisance
lawsuits
We will be looking at millions to be paid to such ransomware extortion uproot
To be passed on to us for the goods and services we buy
Because on our anti-hacking defenses we cannot rely.
