Ridley's Believe It Or Not For January 31, 2016 World Leprosy Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 31, 2016, 355 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term. Interesting theater on the political front as another blizzard is bearing down on Iowa which may significantly reduce turnout that some candidates like Sanders need. As always, I hope you enjoy Sunday’s holidays and observances, a music link to The Shirelles, factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Mother Teresa, looking forward to enjoying a cup of hot chocolate, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. World Leprosy Day—promoting awareness of a disease that has been with us since biblical times but now spiraling down due to drugs provided free of charge by the WHO from over five million infected in the 80’s to less than 190,000 in 2012.
2. Warm Your Heart With Art Day—promoting the use of art to warm one’s soul and when coupled with a poem by the Alaskanpoet, especially as we near Valentine’s Day.
3. 1961 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1961 on a run of two weeks in that position Will You Love Me Tomorrow by The Shirelles. Here is a link to The Shirelles performing Will You Love Me Tomorrow:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnPlJxet_ac
4. National Hot Chocolate Day--celebrating the signature hot drink on a cold winter day especially topped with marshmallows.
5. Bringing Heatcelebrating not the joy of knowing the furnace is working on a cold winter day but rather the birthday on this day in 1947 of Nolan Ryan who pitched a record seven no-hitters and is tied with Bob Feller with twelve one hitters and holds the record for strikeouts at 5,714.
On this day in:
a. 1747 the world’s first venereal disease clinic opened in London at the Lock Hospital.
b. 1917 in one of the major blunders of WWI topped only by the Zimmerman Telegram, Germany announced that if would resume unrestricted submarine warfare which guaranteed that the U.S. would enter the war on the side of the Allies.
c. 1930 3M started marketing Scotch Tape.
d.1990 when rattling sabers no longer works try rattling French fries which we did as the first McDonald’s in the Soviet Union opened in Moscow.
e. 2010 Avatar became the first film in history to gross over $2 billion in sales worldwide.
Reflections on a disease more rampant than leprosy: “The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted.” Mother Teresa

Time for Obama on Clinton to Ape Ford?

Time for Obama to Ape Ford?
Obama’s slogan was “hope and change” that the voters seduced
With his bias and diviseness quickly went into terminal disuse
Hillary facing the fact that her coronation carriage has disappeared
With indictments looming in desperation to Obama’s cloak she adheres
How can you even attempt to this country try to unite?
When with each day more evidence comes forth to her indict?
This woman in order to hide her quid pro quos of favors for Clinton Foundation cash
Created a private server and tossed national security concerns into the trash
Dishonest, untrustworthy, and totally motivated by greed
The Clinton motto “Pay us and we will get you what you need.”
Finally, after 30 years of scandal she has crossed the line
Unless pardoned she will be indicted and if convicted may serve time
Ford did the right thing in order for the nation to move on
To put Watergate behind and seek a new dawn
He pardoned Nixon and due to that act may have to Carter lost
Putting the nation ahead of personal desires at great cost
Now Obama so desperate for a legacy with a positive spin
Needing a Blue to the presidency win
As the FBI nears a recommendation to Hillary indict
Caught between a rock and hard plate with a legacy fading from sight
Maybe time to cut a deal and a pardon with conditions to Hillary grant
To avoid during the election campaign the “Indict Hillary!” chant
She pleads guilty, withdraws her election bid and the Foundation disbands
Biden jumps back in and tries to take the top prize in the land
Or Bloomberg throws his hat into the ring
If Obama dithers and the FBI an indictment recommends but the DOJ will not bring
The protests in the streets will dwarf those of the Arab Spring
She will no longer be able to hide behind the fantasy it’s a conspiracy of the right wing
Hillary and Bill have always scammed under what is a complete fatal character flaw
At least Obama might have a chance to rise above, heal the nation and acknowledge the rule of law.

Ridley's Believe It Or Not For January 30, 2016 Fred Korematsu Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 30, 2016, 356 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term. Interesting theater on the email front as State is refusing to release over 20 because of the classified nature (wonder when Hillary might be talking to Obama about her dropping out of the race in exchange for a pardon for her, Bill and the Foundation in the spirit of Ford’s pardon of Nixon as means to unite the nation). As always, I hope you enjoy Saturday’s holidays and observances, a music link to Johnny Preston, factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Britain’s first recipient of a seeing eye dog, looking forward to enjoying a croissant, bessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.

Reflections on the Japanese-American internment camps:And it seems to me importantfor a country, for a nation to certainly know about its glorious achievements but also to know where its ideals failed, in order to keep that from happening again. Ridley's Believe It Or Not For January 29, 2016 Seeing Eye Dog

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 29, 2016, 357 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term. Interesting theater last night during the Republican debate with the candidates still attacking each other as opposed to focusing on Hillary with an occasional swipe at the absent Trump. As always, I hope you enjoy Friday’s holidays and observances, a music link to The Platters, factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Britain’s first recipient of a seeing eye dog, looking forward to enjoying a bowl of corn chips, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. National Seeing Eye Dog Day—celebrating the contributions made by seeing eye dogs to enable the blind some semblance of independent mobility which until Google introduces a cane which has collision avoidance technology similar to its driverless car and which incorporates a GPS system informing the blind person of his location and when he must turn, the highly trained seeing eye dog remains the gold standard. The day also marks the formation of the first seeing eye dog school on this day in 1929 by a completely blind Morris Frank.
2. National Puzzle Day—celebrating a fun way to spend some challenging time with a crossword puzzle or Sudoku which if you believe the medical profession is also a great way to defer the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s such that when the Golden Years arrive that the senior will know where the person is, who the person is, where the person is going, and will know who the person is talking to.
3. 1959 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1959 on a run of three weeks in that position Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by The Platters. Here is a link to The Platters performing Smoke Gets In Your Eyes The Hop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbQuYgPrM0k
4. National Corn Chip Day--celebrating a chip so tasty that dip such as onion or guacamole is not needed to want to eat the whole bag.
5. Saving Speaker Ryan—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1970 Paul Ryan who given the dysfunctionality of Congress must wonder why he has already used up a disguise his beard grown during hunting season and now faces the growing chaos in Congress as November gets closer and closer.
On this day in:
a. 1834 President Andrew Jackson summoned for federal troops in conjunction with a labor dispute for the first time in our history.
b. 1886 Karl Benz patented the first successful gasoline powered engine.
c. 1896 Emile Grubbe became the first doctor to use radiation to treat breast cancer.
d. 2002 in his State of Union address President George W. Bush identified those nations which sponsor or support terror as the “Axis of Terror,” which included North Korea, Iran and Iraq—14 years later he is batting 2 out of 3.
e. 2015 Malaysian Airlines declared that the disappearance of MH 370 was an accident and declared that all passengers and crew were presumed dead.
Reflections on the importance of seeing eye dogs, lacking only the ability to read text and translate for their blind owner: "A guide dog is almost equal in many ways to giving a blind man sight itself.” Britain's first recipient of a seeing eye dog, 1931

Hillary's Example Of How To Help Middle Class Corrupt

Creating programs to help the middle class is a noble goal
Hillary a former member of the middle class has the winning template but at the risk of selling your soul
Flee the only middle class job  she has ever endured and head to Yale Law School
Where in addition to status you learn the great hair splitting word tools
Marry a middle member of the middle class who never held a private sector job but becomes the governor of a state
Watch the Walmarts and the Tysons of the world woo her to get favors granted from their plate
Migrate to the White House to rent the Lincoln Bedroom rooms
Then form a Foundation and watch your money raising abilities zoom
Get a book advance in the millions and later claim leaving the White House you were broke
Images of suffering middle class trying to evoke
With pandering to Wall Street become ala Robert Kennedy a Senator from New York
Now to take the contribution funding to campaign and Foundation you need a bigger fork
Then the coup de grace the medal of gold
Lose to Obama, become Secretary of State where favors can be sold
Not to you but to the Foundation and for Bill’s speeches
Need favors from State only if you pay the Clinton leech
A lifetime of Clinton Greed
Pay us and we will get what you need
Create a private server so you can from scrutiny conceal
Your ineptness in Benghazi, and the quid pro quos you could deal
A winning template to help the middle class with two major faults
Only a few in the hundreds can benefit and it totally breaks open this nation’s moral and ethical vault
Reds have a simpler idea--get the feds off your back
Lower taxes and regs to get business back on track
Bring spending and border intrusions under control
Make a war on radical Islam a primary goal

Hillary Proves More Poets Fewer Politicians Especially Dishonest Ones

Campaign in Prose, Govern In Poetry
She may spin it or hide behind her phony cackle-like laugh but the bloom is gone from the Hillary rose
You know there is trouble brewing by the first question a millennial at the town meeting posed
All about that so many millennials feel she is dishonest and deceptive, about as transparent as a sheet of lead
No wonder more and more voters, worried that she may be crushed in the general or indicted, prefer Bernie Sanders instead
Instead of admitting there is a real concern she sloughed it off as if it did not exist
Any admission on putting classified information on her server as wrong she continues to resist
Yale Law School training in the game of words dies very hard
Admission from her or Bill of wrong doing is missing from her deck of cards
Already the dogs of indictment are howling from the Reds and  also from they the kennels of the FBI
Hundreds of classified emails with classified markings stripped including the crown jewels, SAPS
The public and the FBI will not fall into her ignore the content look at  the no markings trap
The scandal over classified material on her server is but the iceberg tip
The more real problem for her is her boarding corporations and governments for the quid pro trip
Bill may be a great speaker and the Clinton Foundation may do some good work
But the millions in speaking fees and the tens of millions in donations is not a coincidence quirk
Foreign governments and corporations with business before her Department of State
Must have been dancing in the streets that she was quick to take the quid pro quo bait
The private server had nothing to do with convenience but rather to the quid pro quos conceal
So she, for the Foundation to receive millions and  for Bill to millions collect, could wheel and deal
The Clintons have certainly progressed from their days of putting the Lincoln Bedroom on one night sales
One could not begin to imagine from Wall Street and cronies the amount of money she will receive, with high rates of favor interest, on the campaign trail.
At that same town meeting she used another 2008 campaign line to prove she could the Congress unite
You campaign with poetry but govern with prose ignoring that’s why the number and complexity of regulations and growing out of sight
Hillary had it wrong the order should be reversed
If more politicians instead of mouthing campaign slogans knew the power of verse
And more poets knew politics and how tempting for politicians like Hillary to fall from grace,
For JFK was right when he opined “the world would be a better place.”
As a poet immersed in similes and metaphors ready to open the gates of humanity’s souls
To enable their pointed fingers to touch the heavens and feel spirituality and peace as a poet’s goal
I am sickened to see her try to blame the divisions on the talents of the muse
To somehow dismiss the blame, demonize and deny tactics she is so quick to use
To paraphrase her campaign poem “No foundation is too big or corrupt too fail
And no candidate for president is too powerful or dishonest to jail.”

Ridley's Believe It Or Not For January 28, 2016

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 28, 2016, 359 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term. Interesting theater with Trump who like a spoiled child took his soccer ball home because he has a five month festering grudge against Megyn Kelly and Fox News would not accede to his rules to replace her as a moderator of the Republican debate. I think this may be Pickett’s Last Charge for Trump so I hope you enjoy the theater Thursday Night. As always, I hope you enjoy Thursday’s  holidays and observances, music links to Danny and the Juniors and USA for Africa; factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Michael Jackson, looking forward to enjoying some peanut butter, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Data Privacy Day promoting the need for awareness of protecting privacy online and in social media, more so than ever as more and more businesses and the government are being hacked into to the point this should be a daily observance not once a year.
2. Plugin Developer Day—celebrating the efforts and accomplishments of plugin software developers who on this day in 2009 had created 4,000 WordPress plugins.
3. 1958 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1958 on a run of five weeks in that position Singing At The Hop by Danny And The Juniors. Here is a link to Danny And The Juniors performing At The Hop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3KjDpvmtwU  Check out those buttoned suits with handkerchiefs in the front pockets—so classic pre Beatles.
4. National Blueberry Pancake  Day—celebrating a great and easy way to get your antioxidants along with some buckwheat and calories in the form of Maple syrup.
5. Slim In Name Only Not in Wealth--celebrating the birthday on this day in 1940 of the man known as the Warren Buffet of Mexico and reputed to be one of the richest men in the world, George Slim.
On this day in:
a. 1807 London’s Pall Mall became the first street to be lit by gaslight.
b. 1935 Iceland became the first Western Country to legalize therapeutic abortion.
c. 1956 Elvis Presley made his first appearance on national television.
d. 1985 supergroup USA for Africa (United Artists Support Africa) recorded the hit single We Are The World to raise almost $100 million for famine relief in Ethiopia. Here is a link of the recording to see if it does not bring tears to your eyes or at least moisten them while you try to recognize the artists many of whom like Michael Jackson are no longer with us but others like Kenny Rodgers still are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9BNoNFKCBI
e. 1986 in a chilling reminder of the dangers faced in the exploration of space, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded minutes after takeoff killing all seven astronauts on board including school teacher Christa McAuliffe who was looking forward to becoming the first teacher in space.
Reflections from Michael Jackson as written in  We Are The World:
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
one So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
 We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me
Michael Jackson  If such a large group of artists with egos that make Donald Trump look like a shy insecure person could come together in a recording song and record a tremendous performance and not get paid for it other than the satisfaction of helping their fellow human beings, one would think the Reds and Blues that infest Washington might be able to a least try.

Ridley's Believe It Or Not For January 27, 2016 International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 27, 2016, 360 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic  lame duck term. Interesting theater with Trump who like a spoiled child took his soccer ball home because he has a five month festering grudge against Megyn Kelly and Fox News would not accede to his rules to replace her as a moderator of the Republican debate. As always, I hope you enjoy Wednesday’s holidays and observances, a music link to Guy Mitchell; factoids of interest, a relevant quote from Primo Levi, looking forward to enjoying some peanut butter, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Holocaust Remembrance Day—commemorating one of the great stains on our humanity, the Holocaust where over 6 million Jews were exterminated by the Nazis. Unfortunately the cries of “Never again against genocide” are getting weaker and more and more ignored in the Post WWII world especially in the Middle East where ISIS and all sects of radical Islam continue to slaughter Christians wherever they find them and the theocrats in Iran soon to be armed with nuclear weapons continue to strive for the destruction of the Jewish State.
2. Vietnam Peace Day—celebrating on this day a cease fire for Vietnam War and at least for the U.S. the end of our fighting and withdrawal in 60 days. Unfortunately South Vietnam refused to hold elections as require and North Vietnam reentered hostilities and South Vietnam quickly fell.
3. 1957 Number One S ong—celebrating the number one song in 1957 on a run of nine weeks in that position Singing The Blues by Guy Mitchell. Here is a link to Guy Mitchell performing Singing The Blues:
4. National Peanut Butter  Day—celebrating by all those kids not allergic to peanuts and    bemoaned  by adults later in life as it adds to the calories but at least your weight  loosing resolutions have by now been ignored so enjoy some peanut butter spread over some hot toast.
5. Where Is The Mad Hatter When We Need Him Most?--celebrating the birthday on this day in 1832 of a man who would be most welcome today to chronicle the theater we are witnessing in the campaign for president by both the Reds and the Blues.
On this day in:
a. 1785 the first public university in the United States was founded at Georgia.
b. 1945 the Red Army liberated the last surviving inmates at Auschwitz in Poland.
c. 1984 While filming a Pepsi commercial, Michael Jackson’s hair catches on fire.
d. 1996 Germany observed for the first time Holocaust Remembrance Day, something that Turkey should have done decades ago with respect to its genocide of Armenians in World War I.
e. 2006 in a fitting revenge for the technology of the telegraph ending the Pony Express Western Union ended its telegram service, a victim of the internet.                                                                                        Reflections on the Holocaust and why the phrase “never again’ be humanity’s theme:  “Monsters exist, but they are too few in number to be truly dangerous. More dangerous are the common men, the functionaries ready to believe and to act without asking questions.” Primo Levi, noted Italian chemist, author and Holocaust survivor                                                Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
