Being Black in the Triage Line Moves You to Head of the Line

 

On the battlefield or at the scene of major accidents triage is the name of the game
When faced with multiple casualties and little time to the march of death tame
Treat the most seriously injured first bnefore those who have little chance to survive
Spend not scarce treatment time on whom will quickly die even if at first revived
In an ideal world facing death no one would have to wait in line
But now triage in New York is differently defined
The test is not who if treated has the best chance to live
But the effects of “systematic racism” a society must  no longer forgive
Access to scarce  COVID-19 drugs now depends on the color of one’s skin
If you are white and suffering from COVID-19 you lose but if black you win
Even in war against an enemy troops were sworn to kill
A wounded enemy soldier was not ignored and relegated to the butchers’ bill
Black Lives Matter created an awareness of the need to curb against blacks excessive deadly force
Not to add knowledge of skin color to determine priority of treatment in a med school course
Triage used to determine who will have the best survival chances
Should not be skin color based to black racism to against whites advance
A perversion of the Hippocratic Oath to which all doctors are bound
To ration treatment on skin color is racist and should never be allowed to gain ground
