10 mushers have finished the race, including 7^th place Eddie Burke as the fastest male rookie, 7^th place Mille Porsild as the fastest female and 10^th place and early leader Wade Marrs and 19 mushers are still on the course coping with the freezing weather and solitude with their dogs as company save for the Berington twins who seem glued together. KittiJo Deeter in 16^th place, barring injury or breakdown has a lock on the fastest female and in a race to participate in the Prize Purse, the Berington twins in 21^st and 22^nd are only 9 and 11 minutes behind 20^th place Deke Naaktgeboren and only 31 and 33 minutes behind 19^th place Ramey Smyth who is out of Elim. Eric Kelly the former leader for the The Red Lantern has dropped out at Shaktoolik 221 miles from Nome, leaving Jed Stephensen as the new leader but only 83 minutes behind next to last place Jason Mackey with 221 miles to catch up and pass with his team of 11 dogs against Mackey’s 7.
