The Michigan State Athletic teams are named after the Greek City
State Spartans of old
With shield, spear and sword their courage and bravery against all odds
continues to this day to be told
Xerxes at Thermopylae with his “Immortals” found out how dearly a Spartan life
is sold
For days without hope of relief a force of 300 was an immovable spear wall to
behold
Betrayed by a goat herder who informed Xerxes to attack the Spartans there was
another way
Climb a goat path into the mountain and come out on the other side to then with
archers slay
The Spartans at MSU play with energy to ape the Spartans in all sports
But today against a firearm, the athletes and students there will come up short
News this evening on the campus is a lone gunman is shooting students left and
right
Police are responding and desperately trying to find the shooter to end this
fight
Another mass shooting on a campus to continue the too deadly trend
Students fleeing for their lives when will the nightmares end?
We hope he is quickly caught and taken alive
So we might have a chance to his sick motive derive
Rather than surrounded cowardly putting his gun to his head
Taking his motives with him to his grave as he shoots himself dead
