Hope your Hump Day proved
to be a great one. Maybe Biden is no longer scaring Blues and Blue leaning Indies
that 80 in his case is not the new 90’s in cognitive ability as a majority of
such voters believe in his candidacy and only 45% feel the party should select
another candidate while in Trump’s case a majority of Reds and Red leaning
Indies feel someone other than Trump should be the candidate. Wasilla, Alaska
gave us Sarah Palin but also in seems Red State Representative David Eastman
who had the idiotic temerity to argue that fatal child abuse could be a benefit
to society because it would save taxpayer dollars which prompted the House to
censure him 35-1 with his vote being the only negative one. If you long to hear
some good news that highlights the generosity and goodness of the American
public here is some—a 80 year old janitor came out of retirement to work in
January at Callisburg High School in North Texas because his rent had increased
by $400 a month and could no longer make ends meet. Some students heard of his
plight and started a GoFundMe Account entitled “Getting Mr. James out of this
school” with a target goal of $10,000 and have now raised $160,000 (brings
tears to your eyes). No. 3 ranked Stanford Women’s Basketball Team on the hunt
for a number 1 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament that starts on March 1 plays No 21
ranked Colorado this Thursday at 2:00 PST in Boulder on the PAC 12 Network TV
and No. 8 ranked Utah in Salt Lake City this Saturday at 11:00 PST. Go Stanford
an onward to a Pac 12 Championship. I hope you find Ridley's Believe It Or Not

Noted Holidays: World Thinking
Day: Created by The World
Conference of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1926 for a day of international
friendship, a day for speaking out on issues that affect young women, and a day
for thinking about "sisters" (or "brothers") around the
world, the meaning of Guiding, and its global impact. The day is also shared by
the Scouts as Scouts Day as February 22 is the birthday of Robert Baden-Powell,
the founder of Scouting and also the birthday of his wife Olave Baden Powell,
the founder of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “alak” which is a
word used to express sorrow or regret which most Americans must feel for the
Ukrainians who have endured almost a
year of seeing their cities being reduced to rubble by Russian shelling and
missiles.
Number 1 Song: The number 1
song on this day in 1951 was “The Tennessee Waltz” by Patti Paige on a run of 9
weeks, one of which occurred in December, 1950. to share with 9 other songs that achieved
number one status. Here is Pattie Paige performing with lyrics: “The Tennessee Waltz”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XCvfy6Huyc
February 22 Famous Birthdays: Drew Barrymore, noted
actress with Barrymore acting genes in her body and lineage born on this day in
1975 at Culver City and who was before the camera at age one for a dog food
commercial in which she was bitten producing not a cry but a laugh. She debuted
as a child actor in 1982’s E.T. The Extra Terrestrial and the race to
stardom was on marked by highly publicized alcohol and drug binges and her
emancipation as a minor at age 15, but still managed to become the youngest
host of SNL at age 7. A free spirit without any doubt but with a lot of talent
and audience appeal as her numerous movies have grossed over $2.3 billion, has
developed a fashion and fragrance line, dabbled in directing, and written a
book.
February 22 Notable Events
1. 1879—In Utica, New York,
F.W. Woolworth opened its first five and dime store “Woolworth’s Great Five
Cent Store” which was closed in May of
1879, but Woolworth’s marketing ideas did not and another store was opened in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania on July 18, 1879 to grow to become one of the largest
department store chains in the United States in the 20th Century but closed down its department stores to focus
on sporting goods in 1997 and is still in business under the name Foot Locker.
2. 1909—16 American battleships called The “Great White Fleet” led by the USS Connecticut,
after leaving the Hampton Roads, Virginia on December 16, 1907 circumnavigated
the world to arrive back on this day bringing an end to a voyage that covered
43,000 nautical miles and entailed 20 port stops.
3. 1980—At the Winter Olympics at Lake
Placid, New York in what was to be considered one of the greatest upsets in
sports and called “The Miracle on Ice”,
in the semi-finals, the underdog U.S. Ice Hockey Team with only amateur players
and 4 minor league professionals defeated the heavily favored Soviets 4-3 after
being down 3-2 at the end of the second period to advance to the finals and win
the Gold Medal by defeating Finland 4-2 after being down 2-1 at the end of the
second period.
4.
1997—In Roslin, Midlothian, Scotland, British scientists announced that an
adult sheep Dolly had been cloned.
5. 2014— President Viktor Yanukovych of
Ukraine was impeached by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine by a vote of 328-0
and on the 24th fled to Russia claiming asylum and maintaining that
he was still the legitimate president of Ukraine, requesting Russian help to
protect Russian speaking residents of Eastern Ukraine and would most likely
like Quisling in Norway have been installed as president if the Russians would
have been successful in occupying Kviv which most military experts assumed would
happen in a few weeks.
Famous Quote on Notable Events Or
Persons: President Theodore Roosevelt in a speech to the men of the Great White
Fleet on their return to Hampton Roads, Virginia: “Over a year has
passed since you steamed out of this harbor, and over the world’s rim; and this
morning the hearts of all who saw you thrilled with pride as the hulls of the
mighty warships lifted above the horizon. You have been in the Northern and
Southern Hemispheres; four times you have crossed the line; you have steamed
through all the great oceans; you have touched the coast of every continent.
Ever your general course has been west ward; and now you come back to the port
from which you set sail. This is the first battle fleet that has ever
circumnavigated the Globe. Those who perform the feat again can but follow in
your footsteps.”
