February 6, 2023 Ridley's Believe It Or Not

As our military has begun the “needle in the haystack” search for debris from the Chinese spy balloon shot 6 miles of the coast of Myrtle Beach, the Pentagon is assuring us that no sensitive material was transmitted to China while the Biden Administration continues to try to justify the delay (if anyone has been to Alaska other than in the few cities and towns the only danger from debris would have been to have struck herds of caribou not humans). The Grammies last night seemed to be pushing Satanic rituals in Red; Madonna as a presenter was the poster child for too much plastic surgery but on a better note Willie Nelson who is on tour was awarded a Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Solo Album and Stevie Wonder, Chis Stapleton and Smokey Robinson on the stage at the same time thrilled the crowd with their performance. In a news item that shows the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well still in America, 5th grader Rylen Robbins, the proud owner of 21 chickens which are laying 18-19 eggs a day has reached out to Courtney Johnson, owner of Sweet Anna’s Bakery in Dallas, North Carolina to sell her eggs at the bargain basement price of $3 a dozen. I hope you enjoy today’s Ridley's Believe It Or Not  and find it worthy to read and if not reply “Unsubscribe” to be removed.
Ridley’s Believe It Or Not February 6, 2023
Noted Holidays: Lame Duck Day created in 1933 by the ratification of the 20th Amendment which shortened the term of the president and members of Congress elected in 1932 to January 20 and January 3, 1937 respectively and 20th  and 3rd of January for all succeeding elections.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “afterwil” which means locking the barn door after all the cows have been let out which might describe the state of affairs after the delay of 8 days before the Chinese spy balloon was finally shot down.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 1966 was “Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel on a run of 2 weeks noncontinuous to share with 27 other songs achieving number 1 status, while 16 acts, including Simon and Garfunkel achieved their first number  song. Here is a recording with lyrics of Simon and Garfunkel performing  “Sound of Silence”:

Noted Birthdays: Ronald Reagan born on this day in 1911 and former actor, Screen Actors Guild President, Governor of California, 40th President of the United States, the last president to be shot in an assassination attempt and until passed by Jimmy Carter, who is still alive, the oldest living ex-President. An icon to Republican voters and architect to laying the foundations for the collapse of the Soviet Union but also remembered for his humorous quips like the one delivered in his 2nd debate with Walter Mondale : “I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience" which many pundits perceived as the nail the coffin of Mondale’s campaign.

Quote of the DayDavid Gerrold, noted American science fiction screen writer and novelist: “In the entire history of the human species, every tool we've invented has been to expand muscle power. All except one. The integrated circuit, the computer. That lets us use our brain power.”
