It seems to often the vows at weddings “till death does us part”
Are mouthed but in reality too often never taken to heart
Two couples grow apart in marriages with too much stress
Each day it becomes much easier to love each other less
Divorce with all its bitterness and crushing legal fees
A place where at the aisle no sane one would ever in future want to be
When couples have been married for 40, 50, 60 years
Most of us wonder how but really want to cheer
But when a couple has been married for 50 years
And the COVID-19 reaper for both in a hospital appears
And both knowing their life without the other would be too barren
No more moments of joy, sadness, love, comfort, success or failure to be sharen
It brings tears to one’s eyes
A fitting way to both die
Hand in hand after 50 years but seconds apart
To the eternity that awaits all souls to now depart
Vows made, vows really kept
Envious of them, our tears wept
