At 100, on December 5, 2020 Another on the Greatest Generation Passes But Not His Memory

The Greatest Generation is engaged in the final battles it knows it cannot win

Years earlier it rose up to defeat the Japanese, fascists' and Nazis' horrific evil sins

Its opponent General Old Age now mere has to sit back and wait

Soon with the help of his new ally COVID-19 all of the Greatest Generation will meet the same fate

On December, 5 a veteran of the Big Red One Sgt. Robert Blatnikt

Who had landed on Omaha Beach who survived the death and maiming so thick

At the age of 100 finally breathed his last

Another diminishing member whose deeds should never fade into the past

Could not find any story of his deeds only he got his men off the beach

To the questionable safety 400 yards inland where death was harder to reach

Some half of the men with him that day had God hear their prayers

After 24 hours their dog tags would not be gathered with 500 others to a deadly fate share
