Iditarod
Standings March 19, 2022 13:50
7 mushers
are still racing all out of White Mountain after 3 rookies, Sean Williams, Bridget
Watkins and Gerhardt Thiart, after each rested over 8 hours left White Mountain
but quit along the trail. The 2 Deeters left at the same time with Jeff in 32nd
and Katti Jo in 33rd and in the last 4 who all rested over 19 hours,
Apayaug Reitan is 23 minutes behind Eric Kelly, 31 minutes behind Yuka Honda
and 94 minutes behind Kailyn Davis. All that remains before the Iditarod comes
to a close is to see who wins the Red Lantern for finishing in last place and
to determine the allocation of some $500,000 purse. In a glaring example of how
widespread COVID-19 can be even in Alaska, Nic Petit tested positive before the start and
4 time winner Jeff King who had not planned to race this year had to drop out
while King agreed to race his dogs and finished in 28th place, 15
seconds behind rookie Amanda Otto who has spent the last 2 years working for
him
