Brent Sass Thwarts Dallas Seavey's Attempt to Win 6th Iditarod

Brent Sass at age 27 celebrated the Ides of March by crossing the finish line at Nome in weather too cold to be wearing a toga 1 hour and 8 minutes ahead of Dallas Seavey age 35, last year’s Iditarod winner and who is only 1 of 2 mushers to have won the race 5 times and was the youngest ever to win when he won in 2012 at age 25. The purse stands a minimum of $500,000 with the first 20 finishers receiving a declining percentage that may or may not cover the $4000 entrance fee to race and those who finish in 21^st place or after each receive $1049 (imagine the feeling of mushing along in the freezing night alone with your dogs with a couple hundred miles to go knowing that if you endure the agony to finish you will receive a check for $1049).
