Ridley's Believe It Or Not July 24 History National Tequila Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—July 24, 2014:  Another meager day of holidays but you are probably on vacation anyway and do not need the time off. Hope you enjoy what is posted, along with the factoids and quote from Nikita Khrushchev with a smile on your face and a shot of tequila in your hand.
           1. Amelia Earhart Day —celebrating the birthday of a great female aviator born on this day in 1897 who disappeared in the Pacific in 1937 while attempting a circumnavigation of the globe.
           2. Mormon Pioneer Day—commemorating Brigham Young’s arrival in 1847 in what later would be known as Salt Lake City and proclamation that this site was God’s place for Mormons.
           3. Cousins Day—what’s buzzin cousin? Great day to celebrate your aunt’s and uncle’s children, kissing or otherwise.
           4. National Tequila Day—celebrating that fiery cactus based Mexican spirit though not sure why not celebrated on the 5th of May.
On this day in:
           a. 1935 in a preclimate change moment the Dust Bowl heat wave peaked wit temperatures of 109 in Chicago.
           b. 1959 in Moscow Vice President Richard Nixon and Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev have a Kitchen Debate.
           c. 1966 in a foolish moment, Michael Pelkey and Brain Schubert made the first BASE jump from El Capitan with both landing with broken bones; a feat now banned.
For all his pounding of a shoe on the table at the UN, Khrushchev actually sometimes had it right: “Politicians are the same all over. They are always promising to build bridges where there are no rivers.” Nikita Khrushchev
