August 4, 2023 Ridley's Believe It Or Not

In a sign that there’s a new sheriff in town, at Trump’s arraignment in D.C. yesterday with Jack Smith as a courtroom onlooker, U.S. Magistrate Judge Moxila Upadhaya, presiding over the arraignment addressed Trump as Mr. Trump as opposed to “Mr. President” which he really enjoys hearing. The arraignment may not have been as sobering as one would think it would be given the severity of the possible sentences if found guilty, but upon returning to his New Jersey on Trump 1, he crashed a wedding reception being held at his Bedminster, New Jersey Gold Course to roaring chants of “U.S.A.,U.S.A.” shown on video not attacking Smith but complimenting the beauty of the bride. Here is a chilling news item that may explain the growth in Home Schooling as in 2022 75 % of the 349 educators in grades K-12 arrested for sexual abuse of minors involved students as their victims. In really shocking news  and proof that the reptilian brain has no gender or age barriers, a 74  year old private school teacher at a Tomah, Wisconsin school, Anne N. Nelson-Koch, was convicted of 25 counts of sexually abusing a then 14 year old male student and now faces a death sentence of up to 600 years. 1000’s of teenagers responding to social media informing of a free PlayStation giveaway at 3:30 P.M. in NYC’s Union Square turned the event into a mini-riot with all manner of bottles and debris being thrown at the responding  officers. Blue Rep of New York in the transcript clearly is shown as trying to minimize Archer’s damaging allegations trying to get Archer from conceding that Hunter was peddling the illusion of access to Biden as opposed to access itself (in bribery situations most people are smart enough to not say “If you pay this I will do this” but are much more subtle to convey the quid pro quo expected. Popeyes is on the receiving end of some really bad publicity—in Atlanta, one of its outlets and its employees are being sued by a woman trying to correct her order  being attacked by employees in her car in the drive through who pulled a gun but did not fire to stop the physical attack and another Popeyes outlet a student taking pity on a man who looked homeless and hunger was told she couldn’t do that and called the police on her (Popeyes chicken is tasty as tasty can be but their employee manuals must really suck and need some major customer service interaction overhaul).

Noted Holidays: Coast Guard Day: Celebrating the birthday of the Coast Guard’s predecessor the Revenue Cutter Service created on this day in 1790 to with an authorized force of ten cutters enforce the nation’s tariff laws and which has now expanded to maritime safety and navigation and the interdiction of drugs being smuggled by sea into the nation.
Word of the Day: the word of the day is “arrant” which means unmitigated or notorious which describe some of the ad hominem smears politicians have a proclivity to hurl against each other during the heat of a campaign.
Song of the Day:  The number 1 song on this day in 1942 was “Jingle Jangle Jingle”  by Kay Kyser and His Orchestra with Harry Babbitt,  Julie Conway and the Group  on a run of 8 weeks to share with 8 other songs achieving number 1 ranking. Here is a recording of Kay Kyser and His Orchestra with Harry Babbitt, Julie Conway and the Group performing  “Jingle Jangle Jingle”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq7wO1qtQuM
August 4 Birthdays: “Thank God for Grandmothers”: Barack Obama, son of a white mother and black father born in Honolulu  in  1961 and who was largely raised by his white grandmother, who was the family’s rock, and white grandfather, who became the first African American president for two terms and who must be wondering if his Vice President will have the cognitive ability to defeat an indicted Trump.

Famous Quote on the Gulf of Tonkin Attack on the USS Maddox, Secretary of Defense Robert MacNamara:  “And ultimately it was concluded that almost certainly the [August 4]  attack had occurred. But even at the time there was some recognition or a margin of error, so we thought it highly probably but not entirely certain. And because it was highly probable—and because even if it hadn’t occurred, there was strong feeling we should have responded to the first attack, which were positive had occurred—President Johnson decided to respond to the second [attack]. I think it is now clear [the second attack] did not occur…”
