August 13, 2023 Ridley's Believe It Or Not

Chuck Todd thinking that David Weiss might change his spots and this time get serious on investigating Hunter even if as Republicans believe it will to link President Biden with Hunter’s illegal acts urged the DNC take this seriously as it may affect Biden’s electability (sadly Weiss will use the “ongoing investigation” to thwart House Republicans investigations of Hunter and Biden’s links to the millions of dollars wired to Biden Family accounts). Kindu Jeancya 22 year old “asylum” seeker from the Republic of the Congo who had been bussed up from NYC by DocGo hired by NYC to transport illegals and was being housed at Best Western Hotel in Cheektowaga, New York has been arrested for sexual assault and worst DocGo officials are claimed to have tried to conceal the facts of the assault from police (Governor Hochul is stationing National Guardsmen at hotels and motels that are housing illegals when they could be of better use at the border and Erie County has demanded the ban on busing illegals into the county). Mayor Adams is pleading for federal help as the illegal migrant crisis in NYC will cost the city some $12 billion money that would be better and more wisely spent adding CBP and ICE agents,  adding to the Wall and hiring more immigration judges to handle the backlog of mostly bogus asylum claims. In Salem, Indiana 45 year old Michael Chastain drove into the front lawn of the parents of a girl he had been dating in the past and soon had the father on the ground with a gun pointed at his head but his wife hearing the commotion retrieved her handgun and came out and shot Chastain dead. Emboldened by California’s idiotic $900 felony hurdle for shoplifting, a smash and grab mob of 30-50 hooded people attacked a Nordstrom’s in the Westfield Topanga Mall in Canoga Park to flee with $60-$100,000 in merchandise into waiting cars, the license plates of which hopefully security cameras captured. In World Cup action England beat Columbia 2-1 to face Australia who beat France 7-6 on penalty kicks after a 0-0 game ending tie on Wednesday in Sydney. Kevin Costner and his estranged ex Christine Baumgartner are turning their divorce into a real War of Roses with apparent little regard for the collateral damage being inflicted on their 3 children.

Noted Holidays: Spirit of ‘45: Created by the House of Representatives on July 26, 2010 and the Senate on August 5, 2010 and celebrated on the 2nd Sunday in August in 2010 and thereafter to honor the Greatest Generation who survived the Great Depression and were victorious in World War II.
Word of the Day: the word of the day is “assart” which means to clear away trees for agriculture, a practice which may bode well to feed Earth’s growing population but not to reduce carbon emissions.
Song of the Day:  The number 1 song on this day in 2018 was “In My Feelings” by Drake on a run of 10 weeks to share number 1 status with 10 other songs achieving number 1 ranking while 9 acts, including XXX Tentacion who became the 8th artist to achieve number one ranking posthumously, achieved number one status for the first time. Here is a music video with lyrics of Drake performing “In My Feelings”:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRS_PpOrUZ4

August 13 Birthdays: “To die trying to save a downed helicopter crew.” Randall Shughart: Born on this day in Lincoln, Nebraska was an Army Ranger who was assigned to the Delta Force and served in Mogadishu where he and another Delta Force member roped down against multiple warnings it was too dangerous to try to protect a downed helicopter pilot from an attacking Somali mob to die in the attempt on October 3, 1993 and to be awarded  posthumously the Congressional Medal of Honor. His feats and those of his fellow Delta Force Medal of Honor winner Gary Gordon were portrayed in the movie Black Hawk Down.

              1.     On this day in 2020 after decades of animosity/Normal diplomatic relations between Israel and the U.A.E. were established to end the chance of hostilities/The threat of Iran and its nuclear ambitions/Became a great incentive to bring normalized relations to fruition.
              2.     On this day in 1969 the Apollo 11 astronauts after being released from 3 week quarantine/Were treated to a massive ticker tape parade scene/Then off to a plane to fly to L.A./To enjoy a state dinner with Nixon and have Presidential Medals of Freedom hang from their necks on display.
               3.     On this day in 1961/The chilling of the Cold War had really begun/With East Germany shedding people into West Berlin like a terminal case of dandruff/The Communist East German government said “enough”/And closed the border with West Berlin/started the construction of the Berlin Wall so East Berliners could no longer get out and West Berliners could not get in/ Some 5,000 East Germans escaped over, under or through the Wall/Even the deaths of 251 trying to escape did not the efforts to flee stall.

              4.      On this day in 1942 U.S. took the first steps/To end the war with Japan if surrender they would not accept/To hide intentions the Army Corps of Engineers/ Called construction of  facilities for the “Development of Substitute Materials” not for an atomic bomb that would appear/The Manhattan Project in great secrecy and at great cost would develop the atomic weapons to end the war/Sadly too many Communists in the project who to the A-bomb’s secrets opened the door.

5.      On this day in 1979 in Penobscot Bay/the Royal Navy inflicted on the Continental Navy the worst losses ever suffered until Pearl Harbor Day/19 warships sunk or captured and 25 support ships suffering the same fate/The Americans had landed in July and should have attacked Fort George but the inept commander chose to wait/Allowing the British to send a relief squadron from New York City to inflict disaster/ The land force retreated with little food and arms and the British proved on the seas they were the masters.
Famous Quote on the Efforts of Shughart and Gordon by Mark Bowden, Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern Warfare: “It was terribly risky, maybe even hopeless. But one or two properly armed, well-trained soldiers could hold off an undisciplined mob indefinitely. Shughart and Gordon were experts at killing and staying alive. They were serious, career soldiers, trained to get hard, ugly things done. They saw opportunity where others could see only danger. Like the other operators, they prided themselves on staying cool and effective even in extreme danger. They lived and trained endlessly for moments like this. If there was a chance to succeed, these two believed they would.
