August 21, 2023 Ridley's Believe It Or Not

The President and Jill have interrupted their Lake Tahoe vacation as guests at Billionaire Tom Steyer’s mansion and have landed in Hawaii to board Marine 1  to fly over Maui to view the damage and then land in Kaanapali to meet with first responders, government officials and survivors in an attempt to recover from his lack of empathy “no comment” when first asked about the fires and to insure Maui residents that the federal government will be in lockstep with recovery efforts.  He will also announce the appointment of FEMA District 9 Director Bob Fenton as the Chief Federal Disaster Coordinator to oversee federal recovery efforts. Democratic Hawaii Governor Josh Green appeared on “Face the Nation” Sunday to acknowledge that mistakes were made in responding to the fires but blamed climate change for amplifying those errors and regretted that the sirens were not sounded as the fires approached Lahaina. It appears that the death count still stands at 114 as searchers aided by 41 cadaver dogs comb through the burnt out destruction.|
As Tropical Storm Hilary was starting to deliver rain and gusting winds, Southern California was hit with a 5.1 earthquake 4.3 miles southwest of Ojai. Widespread flooding occurred in the Palm Springs area and 911 service was knocked out with flash floods still a danger. Numerous water rescues from flooded residences have been made as this now post tropical storm continues to move toward Idaho and Oregon with the ability to drop a goodly amount of rain. The good news is that Hilary seems to have caused so far only one death and that was in Mexico of someone trying to cross a flooded stream. The “Friendliest Place on Earth” closed early yesterday to the disappointment of those intrepid visitors paying Disneyland’s atrocious admission charges and the LAUSD indicated that none of its schools would be open on Monday.
Spain’s World Cup Championship team already in controversy over players complaints of lack of professionalism and preparation and other issues of their coach is hit with another controversy during the awards ceremony when  the president of the Spanish football federation, Luis Rubiales, kissed Jenni Hermoso, a striker of Spain’s soccer team.
On the crime front, UK Neonatal Nurse 33 year old Lucy Letby who was convicted of killing of 7 babies and attempting to kill 6 more from June 2015 and June 2016 by a jury after 22 days of deliberation was sentenced to life without possibility of parole. On the other side of the Pond, 41 year old respiration therapist Jennifer Hall who had been charged with first degree murder for killing 75 year old Fern Franco and 37 year old David Harper who were 2 of the 9 patients at the Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, Missouri who had died from medically suspicious circumstances in the 5 months she had worked there in 2002, copped a plea deal of 1st degree involuntary manslaughter. She made headlines when arrested in 2022 in her mug shot with the logo “I don’t f***ing care” and will now begin serving 18 years hoping she earns good behavior to be reduced and earlier be released on parole.
On the defund the police front Portland City Commissioner who fervently advocated the reduction of the funding for cops and falsely charged that police themselves were setting fires during the George Floyd riots but fortunately was defeated in November of 2021 by a pro police candidate and in a hit and run collision in Portland a witness wrongfully identified her as the hit and run driver which identification was leaked by police to the newspapers prompting her to sue the city and the PPD which suit has been settled for hundreds of thousands of dollars. In Austin, another city with a very liberal city council behind the defund the police movement, crime is going through the roof and the number of officers needed to make the streets safe cannot be hired or retained. The APD believes that it needs 2000 officers for a growing city the size of Austin but only has 1475. In a move to combat rising crime, the Texas DPS entered a partnership with the APD enabling them to respond to emergencies which was lowering crime by 28% Blue Austin Mayor recently cancelled the partnership after praising the results 2 days earlier because it did not comport with “Austin values”(so being murdered, or assaulted or having your vehicle car jacked does?).
Oliver Anthony’s song “Rich Men North of Richmond” is still racking in viewers but in a Deliverance event Billy Bragg has just given us the dueling rich men songs with “Rich Men Earning North of a Million” which has a very pro-union leftist slant. Here are links to both songs to help you shape your political views:  Oliver Anthony:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqSA-SY5Hro  Billy Bragg:    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGNFR7pgxDY
On the safety front if you drink don’t drive take Uber or the train. But if you are dumb enough to drink and then drive, try to avoid the train as this idiot did not with a BAC twice the legal limit in Taiwan after waking up in the morning to drive to get breakfast to run into a speeding train and receive minor injuries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGNFR7pgxDY

Famous Quote on Nat Turner’s Rebellion by Thomas Wentworth Higginson, an ardent abolitionist and soon-to-be colonel of the Union’s first Black regiment, 1861:   “Swift and stealthy as Indians, the Black men passed from house to house,–not pausing, not hesitating… In one thing they were humaner than Indians or than [whyte] men fighting against Indians,–there was no gratuitous outrage beyond the death-blow itself, no insult, no mutilation; but in every house they entered, that blow fell on man, woman, and child,–nothing that had a [pale] skin was spared. From every house they took arms and ammunition, and from a few, money; on every plantation they found recruits… The troop increased from house to house,–first to fifteen, then to forty, then to sixty. Some were armed with muskets, some with axes, some with scythes; some came on their [enslavers’] horses. As the numbers increased, they could be divided, and the awful work was carried on more rapidly still. The plan then was for an advanced guard of horsemen to approach each house at a gallop, and surround it till the others came up.
