August 14, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Social Security Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not August 13, 2020

World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 165,717 new cases  (a .79%  increase compared to a 1.26% increase yesterday) to bring the total past 21 million to 21,128,670 cases, 6,390116   of  which  are active, 14,738,554 of which have been closed with 13,980,163 recoveries (94.85% compared to  yesterday’s 94.85%) and 758,391  deaths (5.15% compared to yesterday’s 5.15%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.

CV USA Cases: New cases of 69,635 with total cases exceeding 5 million at 5,348,436 (a 1.3% increase compared to yesterday’s .71% increase) with 2,403,363 active cases of which 17,239, on a downward trend from over 19,000 in the last 2 weeks (17,342 yesterday), are in serious or critical condition as trend continues to go down, and 3,014,708 closures, 170,446 of which have been deaths (5.65% compared to yesterday’s 5.68%) and 2,844,262 of which have been recoveries (94.35% compared to yesterday’s 94.32%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths. We have now conducted  68,524,602 69,329,967 tests (over 805,000 more tests than those done yesterday).
Non CV Case News: Obama is not a dumb person and it appears more concerns by him of Biden’s mental faculties are coming to the surface; while Comey, McBride, Strozk et al are still free, a minor player in the FBI’s culpability in the Russia collusion probe, ex FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith will plead guilty to altering Carter Paige’s email in order to get a FISA Warrant (hope some other bigger fish are swept into the Durham net as Barr is alluding to); in a move contrary to Harris’s inane claim the other day that Trump is “soft on thugs and terrorist”, the U.S. confirmed it has seized 1.116 million barrels of oil from 4 Iranian tankers bound for Venezuela in violation of UN sanctions on both countries; As the U.S. is preparing to move the Security Council to extend the arms embargo on Iran, Iran has seized an oil tanker in the Persian Gulf in International Waters; in a déjà vu repeat of HRC’s rope-a-dope strategy to reporters, reporters who wanted to ask questions after the roll out of the Biden-Harris ticket were shooed away to the disdain of the MSM, even fawning to the max CNN (in the CV pandemic we have the idea of the 6 foot social distance bubble and for Biden campaign we have the bubble for reporters because his mental capabilities will not let him leave a teleprompter without revealing the advancing dementia); as the debate rages over the safety to the electoral process of mailing ballots to all registered voters, Dr. Fauci has given the thumbs up to in person voting which should bring joy to Republicans terrified of voter fraud; Kayleigh McEnany ripped Yamiche Alcindor for her dishonest tweet taking Trump out of context on suburbs being destroyed under Biden; Southern California firefighters are playing whack-a-mo with wild fires in the winds and triple digit temperatures, the latest one being the Lake Fire which has burned 11,000 acres and is
only 5% contained.
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of August 13, 2020, the number of shootings increased by 13 well aimed shots to 2,474, of whom 3 died to raise the total 2  429 (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 226 behind Chicago now at 206 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which  have  been way  more  deadly and  way  more  numerous  than  shootings  by  police or random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history, a musical link to Magic!, the fact that you are perfervid when it comes to Trump,   and a quote by Larry Elder on the problems facing Social Security, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient.    1. Social Security Day—created by the House of Representatives to commemorate the Social Security Administration and Social Security which plans a vital role in the financial stability of seniors.
   2. Navajo Code Talkers Day—created by President Ronald Reagan on July 28, 1982 to honor the contribution of the 421 Navajo Code Talkers who served with the Marines in the Pacific and who spoke in the clear in Navajo which the Japanese were completely clueless to understand.
    3. 2014 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 2014 on this day on a run of 6 weeks was “Rude” by Magic! in his first number 1 song. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIh2xe4jnpk This 4 person Canadian reggae fusion band was formed in Toronto in 2012.
   4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “perfervid” which means very fervid, ardent or eager which would describe how Sanders supporters feel about Sanders as opposed to Biden.
    5. Still the First and Only—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1966 of noted model and actress Halle Berry who is the first and only actress of color to win an Oscar for Best Actress.
    On this day in:
   a. 1935 to the joy of seniors everywhere then in the future, President Roosevelt signed into law the Social Security Act which unfortunately today is facing a declining number of workers to pay into it and an increasing number of retirees to take money from it raising questions as to its solvency in the not too distant future.
   b. 1980 in a sign that the days of communism in the Eastern Bloc might be numbered, Labor Leader Lech Walsea led a strike in the Gdansk shipyards.
    c. 1994 noted political terrorist Ilich Ramirez Sanchez aka “The Jackal” after undergoing a testicular operation in Sudan was captured there and returned to France where he was tried and ultimately found guilty of 15 murders and is currently serving 3 life sentences which will mean he will die, rotting in prison.
   d. 2003 a massive blackout of electrical service hit parts of the Northeast and the Province of Ontario and impacted some 10 million people with full service not restored to all areas affected until the 16th.
    e. 2015 the U.S. Embassy was reopened in Havana, Cuba after being closed for 54 years following the U.S. breaking off of diplomatic relations and instituting an embargo.             Reflections on the threats to Social Security: “According to the Social Security Administration, in 1945, 41.9 workers supported each individual retiree, while today only 3.3 workers support each retiree. This system cannot continue.” Larry Elder, noted conservative commentator and media personality.
