Wendy’s
is best known for a little old lady in a drive thru asking “Where’s the beef?”
If
asked today in many places the answer would be to our great disbelief
There
is none as the COVID-19 has brought to our meat processors great grief
Soaring
infections of workers closing plants with no end in sight to bring relief
Store
shelves are becoming more like the old Soviet Union where shelves for meat were
mostly bare
Choices
of various cuts are down and the specter of rationing is in the air
Costco
has already put on meat purchases a limit of three
Probably
a wise move to prevent a hoarding into a freezer buying spree
Trump
has signed an order that meat processing plants are vital and must not close
But
with more and more workers infected fearful more and more may be no shows
For
those plants still open masks, disinfecting and social distancing will become
the norm
Production
will fall and loss to steady and abundant deliveries we all will mourn
Carnivores
in this country and around the world pray
This
is not a PETA or Vegan plot to end meat consumption on display
Hopefully
the shortage we will slowly cope with and survive
Maybe
less meat replaced by likes of Beyond Meat will help our hearts and keep us
longer alive.
