Cinco De Mayo: A Tale of Two Coronas

The Battle of Puebla was fought a long time ago
Superior French forces were by an outnumbered Mexican force laid low
A great needed bolster back in 1862 for Mexican pride
But over the years like St. Patrick’s Day pushed more to the drinking side
A day of Patron, Tecate, Modelo and Pacifico
With friends drinking and waiting for the Mariachi Band to show
But today the restaurants and drinking hangouts are shut
A nation wondering when if ever they will again open up
A deadly virus has appeared and shut “nonessentials” down instead
In a forlorn attempt to stop the virus spread
A day in the past for celebrations and good cheer shed
Grumbling, but like good citizens back to lock-downs led
As you sit at home on Cinco De Mayo Day
With Corona in hand wondering what on the TV will come your way
Ponder this irony and ponder it so very well
Set down your Corona and know another corona has sent you to this living Hell
