Six
months after George Floyd’s death that spawned nationwide riots and looting
Minneapolis struggles to return to some sense of a normal footing
Defund police movement by a City Council believing that criminals without
police on citizens will not prey
Has seen murders increase by fifty percent as shootings doubled to 500 as grim
reality is put on display Those lucky enough not to have been killed have seen
5,000 violent crimes this year
Largest number in five years, no wonder residents live in growing fear
100 cops have left the force, retired or taken disability leave
City Council ate its safety seed corn by cutting two academy classes making it
hard to safety achieve
Forced by a narrow vote to on outside police help $500 thousand spend
Desperate attempt to the rise in murders and violent crimes stem
But the left with reforms thus far is not satisfied and wants more
While a city is penny wise and pound foolish delaying demolition permits so
businesses can restore
And with fewer police on call worry about the verdicts from the Floyd murder
and manslaughter trial on March 6
That a not guilty verdict à la Rodney
King will bring riots, burnings, lootings and
assaults
with rocks and sticks
