In Philadelphia the “City of Brotherly Love” is not living
up to its name
As a shooter shot 4 to death and 4 others maimed
Juveniles were among the victims of the shooter protected by a ballistic vest
In a quick 10 minutes the carnage had ended and the suspect
under arrest
As a nation some 330 mass shootings have occurred showing
the problem has not been addressed
Not far from Philadelphia at an annual block party in Baltimore the
celebrants came under attack
Just after midnight gunfire shattered the night killing 2
and wounding 28, 3 critical whose recovery they may lack
Celebrating the upcoming 4th then in terror
running in all directions from the bullets track
Leaving us to pray for the days that tolerance and civility have come back
No arrests and no suspects yet police hoping for cameras to
suspects reveal
In Wichita, the Bronx and Tulsa 17 shot but no shots to
their lives repeal
We are becoming the land of the Wild, Wild West
Where too many gun shots from the innocents lives wrest
A great sense of frustration that too many do not heed the
Commandment not to kill
Until that is drummed into our kids and young
adults we are doomed to pay an increasing butchers’ bill
