In athletics records many endure but for an eternity never last
Michael Phelps who set many records in his swimming career
But 1 by 1 save the 400 meter individual medley they were surpassed
He must have known the end of his holding that record was coming near
He set that record of 4:03:84 at the Beijing Olympics in 2008
But was now at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan to call a race
To see whether his last World Record would suffer the surpassing fate
The French 21 year old phenom Leon Marchand swimming at 4:02:50 to him replace
In a class act Phelps raised the hand of the record breaking Marchand
Excited for him and for Phelps' coach who also coached him
The parade of athletic record breakers continue to march on
Phelps still holds the records for Olympic Gold Medals for those who swim
Records of note that still exist
Jolting Joe’s 56 game hitting streak
And Cal Ripken, Jr. playing in 2,632 consecutive games to easily breakage resist
Hats off to all athletes who breaking records seak
