Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 8,
2018 Due to impending monsoon rains that will further flood the cave
in Thailand, the rescue attempt which will take 11 hours for each boy has
started with the first two boys already having exited from the cave (cannot
imagine anything more terrifying to a boy who does not swim or scuba dive to
have to undertake even with two experienced divers at his side); it boggles the
mind but increasing speculation that the Marvin K. Moody of Blue politics HRC will
run again for the nomination of president in 2020; violence in Haiti erupted on
Friday due to increased gas prices and the ensuing roadblocks have prevent
several American church group of students from reaching the airport to be able
to return to the U.S.; on the opioid front, in Indianapolis a customer using
the drive-thru lane at Burger King overdosed, was revived by police and then
arrested for driving under the influence; in a sign that racism still lurks
close to the surface, a worker at a Subway in Norman, Georgia called police on
a black family with four children who stopped to eat at the restaurant; Thailand
is still in the news as a tour boat cruising off Phuket Island capsized and
sank killing 41 with another 15 still missing; the dog whistles of violence and
hatred against Trump were evident at a campaign office in Long Island for Red
member of the House where 75 year old Martin Astrof threatened to kill Trump
supporters and then almost ran over Zeldin campaign worker (for that outburst
unbecoming a 75 year old Astrof was arrested); in California reeling under
triple digit temperatures, crews are battling 12 separate wildfires that run
the gamut of the state from the Oregon border to San Diego County; China’s
largest wind turbine company Sinovel was caught in the trade secret theft cookie
jar and ordered by a federal court judge to pay American Superconductor
Corporation $59 million for stealing its source code to power wind turbines; in
a reaffirmation of why we need a Second Amendment an irate customer at a George
Webb restaurant in Milwaukie came across the counter and punched his server in the
face but stopped and fled after a co-worker who had a conceal carry permit
pulled her gun out and pointed it at him; in Chicago which witnessed a march
protesting gun violence in neighborhoods of color on Saturday, through July 6,
2018, 1440 people mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of
whom 223 have died (when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this
the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to
the slaughter of people of color by people of color?).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Pit
Bull feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer, factoids of interest for this day in
history, the fact you use mentation before speaking out on issues; a relevant
quote from Major Jesse Marcel on the Roswell Incident, secure in the
knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like college
graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the
Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price
tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for

1. Be a Kid Again Day—celebrating a whimsical day for adults burdened with the stress
of jobs and family concerns to let go and go with the flow and relive those carefree
summer days of being a child and fortunately for job and family only celebrated
on one day of the year.
2. Math 2.0 Day—celebrating
an unofficial observance created in 2009 to promote the need for math literacy
and education at the school and college level.
3. 2011 Number One Song— the number one song in 2011 on a run of 1 week in that
position was “Give Me Everything” by Pit Bull feat. Ne-Yo, Afrojack and
Nayer. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPo5wWmKEaI&bpctr=1531052813
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “mentation” which means thought or
cognition which many politicians lack before they spout off on their sound
bites.
5. A Hail, Hail, the Gang Is All Here—celebrating the
birth on this day in 1949 of noted restaurateur, chef and television personality,
Wolfgang Puck, best known for his Spago restaurants and Chinois.
On this
day in:
a. 1709 Czar Peter the Great ended Sweden’s role as a major
European power by decisively defeating Charles XII at the Battle of Poltavia.
b. 1889 the first issue of The
Wall Street Journal was published.
c. 1932 the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached its lowest
level of 41.22 during the Great Depression.
d. 1947 a report that a UFO had crashed at Roswell, New Mexico
was published and later debunked by the Air Force that it was not a UFO but a
nuclear test surveillance balloon but conspiracy theories die hard especially
among ufologists.
e. 2011 Space
Shuttle Atlantis was launched on the final mission of the Space Shuttle
program.
Reflections
on the Roswell Incident: “I was amazed at what I saw. The amount of debris that
was scattered over such an area... The more I saw of the fragments, the more I
realized it wasn't anything I was acquainted with. In fact, as it turned out,
nobody else was aquainted with it.....There was a coverup some place about this
whole matter." -Major Jesse Marcel, U.S. Army Intelligence Officer in a videotaped
interview. Among the first to arrive at the crash site in Roswell, Marcel
was well acquainted with all the weather balloons launched by the 509th Bomb
Group, presumably including the Mogul balloons, one of which the U.S.
Government now claims accounts for the Roswell wreckage. Are we alone or are we
surrounded by much older planets in far off galaxies whose technology has far
advanced ours?
