Ridley's Believe It Or Not September 19, 2020
CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 311,787
new cases (a 1.02% increase compared to a 1.00% increase yesterday)
to bring the total nearing 31 million to 30,849,190 cases, 7,424,834
of which are active, 23,424,356 of which have been
closed with 22,465,612 recoveries (95.91% compared to yesterday’s
95.88%) and 958,744 deaths (4.09% compared to yesterday’s 4.12%) to
continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality
percentages.
CV USA Cases: New cases of 102,714 with total cases nearing 7 million at
6,946,888 (a 1.50% increase compared to yesterday’s .73%
increase) with 2,542,194 active cases of which 14,156, on a downward trend
with slight blips from a high of 19,155 on July 23 (14,226 yesterday
and 15,881 on September 1), are in serious or critical condition as trend
continues to go down, and 4,404,694 closures, 203,483 of which have been
deaths (4.62% compared to yesterday’s 4.63%) and 4,201,211 of
which have been recoveries (95.38% compared to yesterday’s 95.37%)
(our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single
digits since Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending CV positive
patients to nursing homes and ADL facilities and on a deaths per million
population measurement at 614 ranks behind Peru (946), Belgium (857), Spain (652),
Bolivia (645) Chile (640), Brazil (639), Ecuador (624), and UK (614)
and only slightly worse than Italy (591) and Sweden (580) that never closed its
economy down like we did and Mexico (563) which announced it has run out of
death certificates due to surge in deaths. We have now conducted 97,192,835
tests (now at 293,076/M compared to Russia at 290,514/M so Trump is telling
truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis but for the
U.K. at 314,407/M).
Non CV Case News: Not sure if this is in
response to the furor on the left over the death of RBG and the possibility
that Trump may nominate a replacement but the WH announced it had intercepted a
letter containing the deadly nerve agent riacin; the flags on the federal
buildings have barely reached half mast and already the battle lines are being
drawn over her replacement with Trump urging the Senate to move forward to
confirm any nominee he might send to the Senate and the Blues and Biden howling
that any nomination must come after the election which they believe the will
win along with a Senate majority (Marshal must be rolling in his grave over how
politicized SCOTUS against its wishes is becoming); already online threats to
burn the Senate down from the likes of Reza Aslan an author and producer who
has yo-yoed from Islam to Christianity and now back to Islam (do we detect a sprouting
of jihadism in burn down the Senate threats?); celebrities who are mostly
leftist and who delusionally believe we care what they think or assume because
they sing, dance or act a role playing someone astute that they should be listened
to are weighing in demanding Trump not name a replacement for RBG; parents already
concerned over the pervasive revisionist history and racism slant of Project
1619 infecting our public schools should be concerned that 160 private schools
across the nation have shut down due to the CV pandemic and the inability to
reopen doors (private schools are the beacon of educational light and economic
ladders in our devastated money pit public schools in urban areas).
Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of September 18,
2020, the number of shootings increased to 3,051 of whom 519 have
died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in
droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front
of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore
with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020
will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and
killing less and is now 279 behind Chicago at 240 murders (when will Chicago
and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism
as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people
of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of
color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been way more deadly
and way more numerous than shootings by police or by random mass shootings which occur much
less.
As always, I hope you enjoy
today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in
history, a musical link to “The House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals, the
fact that when outdoors you know how to pight and a quote by DOJ Attorney
Steven O’Rourke on fines for BP due to Deepwater Horizon spill, secure in the
knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like

us a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-43lLKaqBQ
The band is still playing albeit with
numerous personnel changes and none of the original band members.
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “pight” which means
pitch not a baseball or a sales attempt but to set up a tent.
5. Act How You Teach-- celebrating
the birth on this day in 1928 of noted actor and teacher of actors at the HB Studios
William Hickey but who sadly smoked heavily which explained his gravelly voice

On this day in:
a. 1982 Scott Fahlman posted the first
emoticons :-( and :-) on the Carnegie Mellon Bulletin Board.

manifesto written by Ted Kaczynski
which led to his brother identifying him which resulted in his arrest and guilty
plea to escape the death penalty to spend the rest of his life rotting in
prison.
d. 2010 the oil spill leak from an explosion
on the Deepwater Horizon which
occurred on April 20 and resulted in the largest maritime oil spill in history
at 4.9 million barrels finally was sealed.
e. 2016 Afghan-American naturalized citizen radicalized after visiting Pakistan, Ahmad Rahimi, captured after a shoot out with police after setting off 3 bombs which injured 31 people in the New York Metropolitan Area and planting 3 others that failed to explode starting on September 16 was convicted and sentenced to life without possibility of parole and is now rotting in prison.
Reflections on the penalties to be paid by BP for the Deepwater Horizon spill: “The penalty 'has to be high enough that companies of this size won't let a spill like this ever happen again. But, again, not so high as to be ruinous to their operation.” - Steve O'Rourke, Justice Department attorney BP and the DOJ agreed on $4.5 billion in fines and other penalties well below the $4,000 per barrel sought.
