July 1, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Canada Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 1, 2020
CV World: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 247,836 new cases  (a 2.37%  increase compared to a 1.19% increase yesterday) to bring the total to 10,704,083 cases, 4,327,249   of  which  are active, 6,376,834 of which have been closed with 5,860,299 recoveries (91.9% compared to  yesterday’s 91.8%) and 516,535   deaths (8.1% compared to yesterday’s 8.19%).
CV USA: New cases of 70,343   have brought total cases to 2,754,599 (a 2.62% increase compared to yesterday’s 1.16% increase)  with 1,477,402 active cases of which 15,801 (15,864 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition and 1,277,197 closures, 130,412 of which have been deaths (10.21% compared to  yesterday’s 10.3%) and 1,146,785  of which  have been recoveries (89.79%  compared to yesterday’s 89.7%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the residents and staff who then die and accounted for over 40% of our deaths and hopefully the number of cases will not spike given the days of massive protests and riots over George Floyd’s and Rayshard Brooks’ deaths) with 34,855,642 tests (so much for Biden’s claim of lack of testing by Trump).
Non CV New: the Cack New Network is being mocked big time for its listing of big companies still advertising on Facebook as activists are demanding that companies terminate their advertising relationship with Facebook, The Bobbsey Twins of leftist incompetence Cuomo and De Blasio are turning on each other as Cuomo rightfully, as violent crime in NYC is spiking, ridicules
De Blasio for cutting a $ billion out of the NYPD budget as graffiti in Manhattan complaining the cuts are not enough (New York should not worry that the Cuomo imposed 14 day quarantine will deter visitors from states like California from visiting NYC as a visitor, given the unchecked rise in violent crime, would have to have his or her head examined to want to spend any time there); finally after 20 some days of being MIA in her “Summer of Love” delusion, Mayor Jenny Durkan after 5 shootings and 2 deaths had a long due epiphany and ordered police to retake CHOP in Seattle which they did, arresting some 31 in the process; the spike in CV cases has caused several states to do a version of the Texas two step, one opening and two closings back as we enter the 4th with an expanding number of states closing beaches and bars (some good news however as growing possibility that Pfizer will have a vaccine on the market by year end; in Chicago as of June 30, 2020, there were 1725 shootings of whom 307 have died (so much for the defund the police movement and  for the effectiveness of Chicago’s stay at home order and a complete abdication of Mayor Lightfoot other than swearing at people outraged over the killings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 143 behind Chicago with 164 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been more deadly and more numerous than shootings by police or random mass shootings?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day in history,  a musical link to Henri Mancini, the fact that you do not need to use paranyms, and a quote by Russ Limbaugh on Canada,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
 1. Canada Day—celebrating the joining of Canada (Ontario and Quebec), Nova Scotia and New Brunswick on this day in 1867 and celebrated much like our pre COVID-19 4th of July with parades, fireworks and family get togethers.
 2. International Reggae Day—created by Angela David on July 1, 1994 to promote and celebrate that unique form of music reggae.
3. 1969 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1969 on this day on a run of 2 weeks in that position was “Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet”. Here is a recording of the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaA2WiyqO1E.  His composing skills ended far too soon when he died from pancreatic cancer on June 15, 1994 at the age of 70.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “paranym” which means a euphemism which describes the words used to speak to us by politicians to a tee..
5. Judge a Man by the Women He Divorces--celebrating the birth on this day in 1961 of Diane Frances Spencer, know to her fans as Princess Diane who married Prince Charles, had 2 sons William and Harry, won the world over with her outgoing grace, personality and charity work, divorced Prince Charles and then died in an automobile wreck trying to escape paparazzi in Paris on August 31, 1997.
On this day in:
 a. 1968 the CIA formed the Phoenix Program, created to assassinate Viet Cong leaders and sympathizers and people opposed to the government of South Vietnam.
 b. 1979 SONY introduced the Walkman.
 c. 1997 radio station WFAN in NYC launched the first all sports radio network and was probably doing quite well until the COVID-19 virus hit this country.
 d. 2002 the International Criminal Court was established in the Hague to prosecute individuals for genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of aggression.

Reflections on Canada: Canada has an immigration policy you might want to emulate. They want more skilled and educated immigrants. In fact, that's all they take. But, see, since nobody's watching them, and they're not a superpower, nobody really cares. So they are allowed to act in their best interests.” Rush Limbaugh
