July 21, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Racial Harmony Day (Singapore

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For July 21, 2016. Unfortunately still 183 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term and 230 days since hiding Hillary has held a formal press conference; Ted Cruz committed hopefully political suicide by not rambling for 21 minutes at the RNC without endorsing Donald Trump and was finally booed off the stage; sadly his speech and the media attention today overshadowed a great performance by Mike Pence; this RNC has been plagued by missteps like the controversy over Melania’s speech containing some plagiarisms on Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention speech that have clouded the performances of Chris Christie or Rudy Giuliani; one can only hope that Trump hits it out of the park tonight because the Blues will have their A-team totally unified for their convention next week; in a just what we do not need again moment North Miami police wound an unarmed black caregiver for an autistic child who was lying on his back with both hands up in the air next to his patient (no wonder minorities have a problem with police); in another reminder that despite Obama’s assurances to the contrary ISIS is nowhere near contained as Brazilian police arrested 10 ISIS linked jihadists who were planning an attack during the Rio Summer Olympics; Erdogan has been granted sweeping powers to curb dissent following the failed coup.

1. Racial Harmony Day (Singapore)—a observance dedicated to restoring harmony between the Malay and Chinese populations of Singapore to insure that the 1964 Race Riots that occurred on this day never occur again.
2. Get To Know Your Customer Day—customers are the life blood of any business large or small and any business that does not learn its customers’ needs, preferences and dislikes is doomed to fail.
3. 1949 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1949 on a long run of 11 weeks in that position “Ghost Riders in the Sky” by Vaughn Monroe. Here is a link to Vaughn Monroe performing the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHo6ug6yAmw  4. National Junk Food Day—given the growing obesity in Americans and the high intake of salt, this is definitely a holiday that should not be celebrated or observed.
5. The Laugh on the Outside Cry on the Inside—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1951 of a great comic and actor Robin Williams who despite all his fame and income suffered from depression and bouts of alcoholism and took his own life on August 11, 2014.
On this day in:
a. 356 B.C. the Temple of Artemis, on the Seven Wonders of the World, located at Ephesus in present day Turkey was destroyed by fire.
b. 1904 Louis Rigoly broke the 100 mph barrier in a Gobron-Brillie.
c.  1949 the U.S. Senate ratified the North Atlantic Treaty which created NATO to check and contain Soviet expansion in Europe.
d. 1970 after 11 years of construction, the Aswan High Dam in Egypt was completed.
e. 2012 Erden Eruc became the first person to complete a solo human powered  circumnavigation of the world after a 4i, 167 miles in five years, 11 days, 22 hours and five minutes using a row boat, sea kayak, canoe, bicycle and his feet as the modes of transportation.
A classic example of Robin Williams’ humor that has caused over the years millions upon millions to laugh until their sides hurt: “What kind of food did we drop on Afghanistan? Pop-Tarts, peanut butter…just add a Honey Baked Ham and you've got a redneck Christmas. Why are we dropping this food on Afghanistan? Tastes a hell of a lot better than dirt, #1. #2, difficult to have a call to jihad with a mouth full of peanut butter. Thirdly, Afghanistan is a hashish-smoking culture, and anyone who's ever been a friend of the hookah will go, (intense, stoned stare) "Pop-Tarts!" Robin Williams His death was such a waste, but maybe his discovery of the early signs of Parkinson’s disease was too much for him.
