Another Starbucks Encounter

One never knows whom at Starbucks one might meet
Today a young beautiful woman an addiction trying so hard to defeat
Working on her program with two weeks under her belt
With a smile and eyes that would make any man’s heart melt
The long arm of the addictive gene is so hard to shake
So easy to listen to the siren call of it will be different this time mistake
If there is a God, the existence of which this poet firmly believes
A prayer that this young woman sobriety achieves
Too many of our youth are leaving this world way too soon
Overdosed after injecting heroin heated in a spoon
Or overdosing on chronic use of meth
Heart attacks, kidney failures, comas, shortness of breath
No wonder Trump wants to build a wall to stymie the drug cartels
Even though without 60 Reds in the Senate it may be a hard sell
But a fight worth fighting to curb the spread of deadly drugs
To somehow the flow of death into our nation plug
