Ridley’s Believe It Or Not December 4, 2022
Noted Holiday: National Extraordinary Work Team Recognition Day, clueless who created this day or when only that it is celebrated on December 5th of each year—given the difficulties of hiring and retaining employees during the COVID-19 pandemic honoring a company’s teams that have gone above and beyond the call of duty is a wise thing for any employer to do—from cash awards to certificate of appreciation to even heraldic poems of gratitude.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “abroach” which means fasting which given the caloric consumption during the holidays is great reason to have the word as one of your New Year’s Resolutions.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 2013 was “Royals” by  Lorde on a run of 9 weeks  to share with 10 other songs reaching achieving number 1 status while 8 acts including Lorde achieved their first number 1.  Here is a video recording of Lorde performing “Royals”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlcIKh6sBtc
Noted Birthdays: Lionel Pickens better known to his fans as “Chinx” Osbourne, born on this day in 1983 was an up and coming rapper with a wife and 3 kids when on May 15, 2015 he was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Queens. On December 14, 2017 Quincy Honere, a wanna-be  and Jamar Hill already in custody for other offenses were arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder. Both have pled not guilty and I have not been able to locate any information on proceedings after their plea.   Notable Events that occurred on December 4.
          1.       1804—The House of Representatives voted to impeach SCOTUS Associate Justice, Samuel Chase but the Senate acquitted him on all charges.
          2.       1875—William Meagher Tweed, reviled as “Boss" Tweed as the head of NYC’s Tamny Hall, while in jail unable to post a 1 million $ bail while on a permitted home visit fled the country and escaped to Spain where he was later caught and returned to face pending fraud charges brought by New York.
          3.       1867—Former Minnesota farmer Oliver Hudson Kelly founded the Order of the Patrons of Husbandry better known today as the Grange.
          4.       1945—Not wanting to repeat the folly of not jointing the League of Nations which facilitated the disaster of World War II, the U.S. Senate voted 65-7 to join the United Nations.
          5.       2017 The Thomas Fire started near Santa Paula, California and before being finally being contained on January 18, 2018 had burned some 440 square miles and destroyed 1063 structures and damaged another 280 in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.
Quote of the Day: California State Fire Chief Ken Pimlott, “ We are in the beginning of a protracted wind event. There will be no ability to fight fire in these kinds of winds. At the end of the day, we need everyone in the public to listen and pay attention. This is not ‘watch the news and go about your day.’ This is pay attention minute-by-minute … keep your head on a swivel.” Fortunately residents in the way of the fire took heed and only 2 deaths were reported.
