December 14 Ridley's Believe It Or Not

Argentina who beat Croatia 3-0 on Tuesday will face France who beat Morocco 2-0 today in the finals  on December 18 at 700 A.M. PST (feel pity for those on the East Coast who will have to rise at 4:00 in the morning). Sam Brinton formerly in charge of nuclear was disposal has been arrested in Las Vegas for a second luggage theft and released on $15,000 bail with a stern warning from the judge to stay out of trouble (can you guess which photo is “his” arrest mug shot and which one is “his” official government portrait photo?)

If you live in Orange County, California a welcome relief from shopping and holiday parties and an enjoyable day to celebrate Hump Day would be to watch a maritime Christmas Son et lumière in the Newport Beach Harbor December 14-18 Annual Christmas Boat Parade. Hope you enjoy today’s Ridley's Believe It Or Not  and find it worthy to read and if not reply “Unsubscribe” to be removed.
Ridley’s Believe It Or Not December 14, 2022
Noted Holiday: Roast Chestnuts Day, Created by Bob Matthews of Holiday Insights in 2015 and celebrated on Day 1 of the 12 days before Christmas and easy to celebrate if you don’t have and open fireplace by using the oven assuming you mark each chestnut with an “x” with a knife to allow them to open as opposed to exploding if you don’t.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “accubation” which means to recline on a couch which is the preferred position after a huge Thanksgiving or Christmas meal.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 2003 was “Hey Ya” by OutKast on a run of 3 weeks  to share with 10 other songs achieving number 1 status while 10 acts achieved their first number 1 song. Here is a music video with lyrics of OutKast performing “Hey Ya”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWgvGjAhvIw
Noted Birthdays: Ernie Davis, aka the Elmira Express, born on this day in 1939, who went on to star as a running back at Syracuse University to become the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy and be drafted number 1 in the NFL Football Draft on December 4, 1961 by the Washington Redskins who were owned by a rabid racist whose team had no black players but was forced to draft Davis to avoid losing the 30 year lease where they played; Davis wanted no part of the Redskins and was traded to the Browns where he was signed to a $200,000 three year deal in a record for rookies. Unfortunately leukemia was discovered so he never played a game and died too early on May 18, 1963 at age 23.

We have a moral obligation to pass and enforce laws that can prevent these things from happening again. We owe it to the courageous, young survivors and to the families who lost part of their soul 10 years ago to turn their pain into purpose.”
