Ketchikan and Starbucks

One of the great joys to be a poet, a child of the Midnight Sun
Is to meet members of the Golden State on their first Alaskan run
Too many have already done the plunge and the Wrangell Narrows have missed
Too tethered to the cruise ships’ intense caloric abyss
But today this poet whose father’s bones overlook the Narrows as the seine boats  north and south ply
Met a mother and son whose spirit of adventure to go north to the Land of the Midnight Sun could not be defied
Unlike the prospectors of 98 they came north to south heading back to the lower 48
Most likely with their seafood appetites totally in cholesterol lowering to totally sate
This woman with a Ketchikan tee shirt and sons hopefully to the Great Land will return
To with a husband more halibut cheeks and fiddleheads to earn
Bathed in the spirit of the Northern Lights
And the spirit of Alaskans to always when it comes to those in need to do what is right!
