Cinco de Mayo v. St. Patrick's Day

Cinco de Mayo and St. Patrick’s Day Are in a dead heat
To see which one can claim this dubious feat
Which holiday will be able to claim
First place in the amount of alcohol consumed game
The Irish and those who on this day are wearing green to join the Irish clans
Or the Mexicans and those who on this day will be flocking to the sound of Mariachi bands
Cinco de Mayo is a day of tequila and celebration of the victory at Puebla over the French
The search for more Tecates, Coronas, and Pacificos to one’s thirst quench
The stats are not completely clear but St. Patrick’s Day comes in number four
But with only Harp and Guinness, Cinco de Mayo on beer sales not total alcohol sells more
Dubious distinctions that from the original holiday purposes have strayed
To the Catholic Church’s concern and dismay
Today both days are an excuse to drink into oblivion to put drivers at great risk
And to fill the coffers of bars and taverns and eateries with consumption of food and drink that is very brisk
