Memphis has arrested 5 black discharged officers of its police
department for 2nd degree murder for allegedly using excessive force
on a 29 year old black Tyre Nichols who they stopped for reckless driving and
then tried to flee and died 3 days later after the confrontation and is girding
for likely violence when the body cam videos are released along with the
autopsy; the MSM pundits who jumped the gun and declare the Monterey Park mass
shooting as another example of anti-Asian bias have egg on their face as very
quickly after making such allegations the shooter who committed suicide was
found to be an Asian. Hope you will be in front of the TV to watch the NFC
Championship Game between the Eagles and the 49’ers and the AFC Championship
Game between the Chiefs led by a limping Patrick Mahone and the Bengals led by
Jeff Burrows and if a hoopster fan the Stanford Women play Oregon State at
Maples on Friday. I hope you also enjoy today’s Ridley's Believe It Or
Not and find it worthy to read and if not reply “Unsubscribe” to be
removed.
Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 26, 2023
Noted Holidays: Spouse’s Day Clueless
who created this holiday or when first celebrated but a day show the amount of
your love for your marital spouse, significant other, common-law marriage,
domestic partnership or domestic union and on a daily basis at least convey the
idea you love your “spouse.”
Word
of the Day: The word of the day is “aegis” which means the protection,
backing, or support of a particular person or organization which it seems today
this nation has a tendency to lead from behind and look to others for its
protection.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The
number 1 song on this day in 1975 was “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by Elton
John on a run of 2 weeks to share with 34 other acts achieving number 1 status
(a record also reached in 19740), while 18 acts achieved their first number 1
song. Here is a music video with lyrics of pre knighted Elton John
performing “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”:

Noted Birthdays: “The Great One”
born as Wayne Gretzky on this day in 1961 was a professional hockey player for
21 years for 4 different teams and holds records for most goals, points and
assists and the dubious distinction of being undrafted and becoming the hockey
equivalent of famed bank robber Willie Sutton by going to a position where the
puck is to score like going to a bank to rob where the money is.
Notable Events that occurred on

1. 1863—John

U.S. Department of War to raise a militia of soldiers of African descent.

Logie Baird, named as one of Scotland’s ten top scientists in 2006, gave the
first demonstration of television in London to members of the Royal Institution

3. 1998—With a
straight face President Clinton went on national TV and denied that had had had
any “sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky.
4. 2009—Nadya Suleman the mother of 6 children conceived
with in vitro fertilization, was able to
conceive with 8 more of her embryos previously frozen and gave birth to 8 very
tiny babies who spent months in the ICU and who are now all home and alive.
5.
2020—A Sikorsky S-76B carrying
nine people, including Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna and one of her basketball
teammates, took off from John Wayne heading to Camarillo Airport to land and
drive to a basketball game involving Gianna’s team at Kobe Bryant’s Mamba
Basketball Academy ran into dense fog and crashed near Calabasas, killing all on
board.
Quote of the Day: Noah Conan, radio
host of Talk of the Nation and Talk of the Nation and Doctor Thomas Murray, a bioethicist and president of the Hastings Center, a nonpartisan research
group: Noah Conan: “…But there is also a question, no matter how the
pregnancy was caused, the woman could have been offered, and again, according
to her mother, was offered, the option of selective abortion, saying, look,
it's really - might not be safe to have all these children at once. And she
declined the offer.
Dr.
Murray: “Yes. It's a classic lifeboat problem, right? You imagine a group of
people that are stranded on a lifeboat, and they realize that probably, unless
the number of people on the lifeboat is reduced, they're not all going to
survive. Now, if you're looking for a quick and easy ethical answer to that, I
don't have it. I mean, lifeboat problems are ethical dilemmas, and when she was
faced with this, she opted - she made the decision to attempt to have all eight
- well, she thought it was seven...”
Conan: “At the time. The eighth was a surprise,
yeah.”
Dr. Murray: “She thought that she would go with all seven. She said for her,
you know, because of her religious convictions, I understand. That, you know,
that's traditional in a case of a high-order multiple pregnancy, that the
caring obstetrician would offer the option of reduction in number. And
sometimes the parents accept it and sometimes, they turn it down. And I don't
think any of us are in a position where we can say for sure what the right
decision was there. But there should never have been eight there in the first
place.” Interesting observation on in vitro fertilization and comparison to the
U.S. as a lifeboat for the millions upon millions of poverty stricken people
that are claiming asylum in order to come here.
