TCU and Georgia advanced to the finals to determine the college
football’s national champion in games in which the defense of all teams MIA as
TCU beat heretofore unbeaten Michigan 51-46 and Georgia prevailed over Ohio
State 42-41 as Ohio State missed a 50 yard field goal attempt with 3 seconds
left. As 2022 came to an end Barbara Walters and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI
both passed. Today is the 7th and last day of Kwanzaa celebrating
Imani (faith) as the black candle is lit, then the farthest left red, the
utmost right green, the next red candle, the second green candle at the
right-hand side of the black candle, the final red, then the last and final
green candle. I hope you enjoy today’s Ridley's Believe It Or
Not and find it worthy to read and if not reply “Unsubscribe” to be
removed.
Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 1, 2023
Noted Holidays: National Hangover
Day/ National Bloody Mary Day, two back to back holidays for those who
despite their best New Years’ Resolution over indulged on New Years’ Eve but
hopefully were smart enough to celebrate with a designated driver or rely on
Uber or Lyft and for those looking to quaff a Bloody Mary to lessen the
throbbing between their temples.
Word of the Day: The
word of the day is “ackamarackus” which means deceptive or pretentious behavior
the elimination of which we mere mortals hope is at the top our politicians’
New Years’ Resolutions list.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The
number 1 song on this day in 1992 was “Black or White” by Michael Jackson on a
run of 3 weeks to share with 11 other songs achieving number 1 status while 7
acts achieved their first number 1 song. Here is a music video with
lyrics of Michael Jackson performing “Black or White”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2AitTPI5U0
Noted Birthdays: Derrick Thomas,
born on this day in 1967, was a linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs for 11
earning seasons earning the reputation as one of the more successful pass
rushers in the league but had the misfortune of driving his Suburban on January
23, 2000 with 2 passengers in a snowstorm at 70 m.p.h. heading toward the
Kansas City Airport to catch a flight to watch the NFC Championship Game when
he crashed the car, ejecting himself and 1 passenger who like him had not buckled
up, killing the passenger and leaving him a paraplegic (the second passenger was
uninjured). While in a hospital after physical therapy on February 8, 2000,
he suffered a pulmonary embolism and
died.

Quote of the Day: John
Harvey Kellogg, noted doctor and nutritionist and brother of W.K. Kellogg who
founded Kellogg’s Company on the dangers of smoking of tobacco: “Tobacco, in
its various forms, is one of the most mischievous of all drugs. There is
perhaps no other drug which injures the body in so many ways and so universally
as does tobacco. Some drugs offer a small degree of compensation for the evil
effects which they produce; but tobacco has not a single redeeming feature and
gives nothing in return.”
