Elvis Presley’s only child has just died today at the age of 54
after attending the Golden Globes Awards last night from a heart attack.
Merrick Garland seems to have caved to the what’s good for the goose on
classified documents crowd as he appoints a special prosecutor to examine Biden’s
handling of classified documents after leaving the Vice Presidency and a second
trove of classified documents have been discovered (Biden is claiming he is transparent
but after the documents were discovered just days before the election, he
waited over 2 months to disclose their existence). We have become accustomed to
Green eco-warriors chaining themselves to trees to prevent their being logged
but we now have New York prominent chefs chaining themselves to their gas
stoves and ovens to prevent Governor Hochul’s plans to have them banned.
California is still in a lessening drought situation with its reservoirs not
near where they should be but another storm with massive rain and snowfall is
headed our way this weekend. I hope you enjoy today’s Ridley's Believe It Or
Not and find it worthy to read and if not reply “Unsubscribe” to be
removed.
Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 12, 2023
Noted Holidays: National Pharmacists
Day, clueless to what group of pharmacists created this day or when
but it must celebrate the important work done in filling the prescriptions of
needed drugs prescribed by physicians and act as a line of defense to the abuse
of multiple prescriptions for similar or the same drugs which exceed the recommended
safe dosages.
Word
of the Day: The word of the day is “adhocracy” which means government
in an unstructured fashion which many of us after watching 15 votes to obtain a
Speaker of the House must have thought describes the Republican Party in action
after reclaiming the House.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The
number 1 song on this day in 1987 was “Walk Like an Egyptian” by The Bangles on
a run of 2 weeks to share with 29 other songs achieving number 1 status while 16
acts achieved their first number 1 song. Here is a music with lyrics
video of The Bangles performing “Walk Like an Egyptian”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv6tuzHUuuk
Noted Birthdays: Jeff Bezos was
born on this day in 1964 who founded Amazon, purchased the Washington Post, has
been into suborbital space and is one of the world’s richest men although
somewhat clipped by his divorce of his wife of 25 years and the decline in
value of high tech companies like Amazon.
Notable Events that occurred on
January 12:
1. 1966—At
a time when some 2400 Americans had been killed in South Vietnam President
Lyndon Johnson declared American troop would remain there until Communist aggression
was defeated which would become a death sentence for almost 56,000 Americans
who would subsequently die before the collapse of South Vietnam and the
humiliation of the Conga line of terrified South Vietnamese on the roof of the
American Embassy in Saigon trying to board helicopters landing on aircraft
carriers offshore and then pushed over the side; something that was aped in the
fall of Kabul and the rapid withdrawal of American forces along with 13 caskets
of troops blown up by a suicide Taliban bomber.
2. 1971—The
Harrisburg Seven consisting of Catholic Priest Phillip Berrigan and 5 activists
were indicted for planning to kidnap Henry Kissinger and blow up federal
heating tunnels in Washington, D.C. Former Attorney General Ramsey was lead
defense counsel and the jury after 60 hours of deliberation was unable to reach
a verdict and a mistrial order ordered with the government not electing to
retry the defendants.
3. 2004—The world’s
largest ocean liner as opposed to cruise ships, RMS Queen Mary 2, made
its maiden voyage.
4. 2006—A stampede
occurred during the Stoning of the Devil during the last day of the
festival of the Hajj in Mina, Saudi Arabia, killing 352 pilgrims and injuring 289.
5. 2010—A massive earthquake occurred in Haiti,
killing some 200,000 to 300,000 people and destroying the nation’s capital Port
au Prince.
Quote of the Day: Lyndon B.
Johnson, President of the United States: “We do this [escalating U.S. military
involvement in Vietnam] in order to slow down aggression. We do this to
increase the confidence of the brave people of South Vietnam who have bravely
born this brutal battle for so many years with so many casualties. And we do
this to convince the leaders of North Vietnam—and all who seek to share their
conquest—of a simple fact: We will not be defeated. We will not grow tired. We
will not withdraw either openly or under the cloak of a meaningless agreement.”
Empty words that split a nation, killed over 58,000 and wounded some very severely
over 150,000 and ended exactly opposite of what LBJ assured the American people
would not happen.
