          Noted Holidays: National Lobster Thermidor Day Clueless who created this holiday or when first celebrated but given the massive increase in lobster due to Chinese demand and the assault on lobster fisherman that their pots are decimating the Right Whale population, celebrating the day by having some lobster thermidor will be difficult.
          Word of the Day: The word of the day is “advocaat” which means a Dutch liqueur containing brandy, egg yolks, sugar or honey and aromatic spirits and is yellow in color.
          Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 1977 was “I Wish” by Stevie Wonder on a run of 1 week to share with 29 other songs achieving number 1 status, while 18 acts achieved their first number 1 song.  Here is a music video of Stevie Wonder performing “I Wish”:

          Noted Birthdays: Neil Diamond, noted American singer songwriter who started writing and performing his songs after going to a summer camp where  Pete Seeger performed and some of the campers performed for his benefit songs they had written. Diamond attended New York University on a fencing scholarship but was writing more and more songs and with 10 units needed to graduate as a premed, he was offered  a 16 week job writing songs as $50 a week which he accepted, dropped out and the rest is history with over 130 million records sold, 10 number 1 singles and 38 top ten songs; still performing but announced in January 2018 that he had stopped touring due to a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease.
          Notable Events that occurred on January 24:
          1.     1935—The Gottfried Kreuger Brewing Company started selling the first canned beer instead of bottles.
          2.     1961—A B-52 carrying 2 H-Bombs aborted a midair fueling over the skies near Goldsboro, North Carolina when the tanker notified the pilot of the B-52 that it was leaking fuel from one of the wings which caused the plane to immediately try to land at a nearby Air Force base. As it descended the crew bailed out as the pilot continued to fly the plane which then proceeded to break up releasing its two H-bombs which failed to detonate due to the fact that all the arming switches had not switched to arm.
          3.     1984—Apple Corporation placed the Macintosh on sale in the United States to reach 70,000 in sales on May 3, 1984 and when its successor Macintosh 512k was introduced it was rebranded Macintosh 128
 
          4.     2003—The U.S. Department of Homeland Security officially opened for business.
          5.     2018—Larry Nassar, the former medical doctor to the U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Team after being pleading guilty to child pornography and sentenced to 40 years in a federal prison he pled guilty to the rape of 7 minors and was sentenced to an additional 40-175 years to run consecutively in a Michigan State Prison. He is currently rotting away at Coleman II Federal Penitentiary near Orlando.
