January 2 Ridley's Believe It Or Not

In NFL football yesterday Tom Brady solidified his all-star position in the 45 and older league  with his 45th record enhancing 4th quarter come from behind victory against the Panthers to clinch the Southern Division and with 5 consecutive 300 + passing yards game do something no one else in the NFL has ever done and with 477 completions going into the last regular game of the season needs only 9 completions next week to break his record of 485 set in 2021. Brady and Williams got all the accolades but Jake Carmada pulled the rabbit out of the hat after fumbling the snap with less than a minute to go, picked it up running toward line of scrimmage to kick like a rugby star the ball on the run to the 3 yard line but to have the Bucs penalized for an illegal man down field and rekick the ball this time handled cleanly and to the 10 yard line as time would soon expire and seal the Bucs’ win. Hope you enjoyed the Rose Bowl parade which was its usual parade prompting accolades for the combination of creativity and florals beauty. I hope you enjoy today’s Ridley's Believe It Or Not  and find it worthy to read and if not reply “Unsubscribe” to be removed.
Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 2, 2023
Noted Holidays: National Buffet Day/ National Weigh In Day, two back to back holidays for those who enjoy partaking are closet glutens not sated despite all the holiday celebrations and enjoy a dining style that first surfaced in France in the 17th Century and was introduced to the American palate in Las Vegas in 1946  by Vegas hotel; manager, Herb MacDonald. The second holiday was created in 2012 by Kellogg’s the makers of Special K® to address the concern of a large portion of the population following the litany of over eating the need to sensibly lose weight, a good first step of which would be to swear of the all-you-can-eat buffet.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “adamantine” which means unbreakable or unchangeable which is a desirous trait for many building materials but not for politicians have to deal with issues not set in stone.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 1991 was “Justify My Love” by Madonna on a run of 2 weeks  starting on January 5 to share with 26 other songs achieving number 1 status while 14 acts achieved their first number 1 song.  Here is a steamy music video of Madonna performing “Justify My Love”:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np_Y740aReI
Noted Birthdays: Roger Miller, born on this day in 1936, was a noted singer songwriter best remembered for “King of the Road,” “Dang Me” and “England Swings” who was unfortunately, a life-long smoker and like many life-long smokers had his life shortened to die of lung and throat cancer on October 25, 1992 at age 56.
Notable Events that occurred on January 2
          1.      1920—In the rising Red Scare of Communism, the Palmer Raids occurred which threw due process out the window along with the Constitution as over 6,000 suspected anarchists, Communists, socialists and trade unionists were arrested and held for months without bail and access to lawyers in what history will record as a very dark chapter for our civil liberties in this nation.
          2.      1942—In its largest espionage case ever the FBI arrest 33 members of the Nazi’s Duquesne Spy Ring and obtained convictions totally over 300 years, effectively ending espionage efforts by the Germans in the United States during World War II.
          3.      1967—Former movie actor Ronald Reagan was inaugurated as the Governor of California.
          4.       1974—As a result of the embargo by OPEC of oil to nations like the United States that supported Israel, President Nixon signed legislation limiting the maximum speed on highways to 55 m.p.h. to conserve gasoline.
         5.     1991—Sharon Pratt Dixon became the first African American woman to become mayor of a major city, being elected to the Mayor of Washington, D.C.
Quote of the Day:  Roberta Strauss Feuerlicht, America’s Reign of Terror, World War I, Red Scare and the Palmer Raids © 1971: “[T]error is not just a body count. Terror exists when a person can be sentenced to years in prison for an idle remark; when people are pulled out of their beds and arrested; when 4,000 persons are seized in a single night; and when arrests and searches are made without warrants. Moreover, for each person sent to prison for his views, many others were silenced. The author amply documents the government’s insensitivity to civil liberties during this period, its frequent brutality and callousness, and the personal grief that ensued.”
