For those watching the Monday Night Game between the Bengals
and the Bills
Watching the collapse of Damar Hamlin after a stop must have felt the chill
Of a man lying motionless on his back
While medical personnel launched a CPR attack
Pounding on his chest to push blood from the heart in and
out
To give his brain cells the chance to survive this life threatening bout
An ambulance onto the field to head to the nearest ICU
While players on both sides, attendees and viewers’ fears for his safety grew
The touching scene of the Bills team and support staff kneeling
Praying that God would prevent his death and aid in his healing
And on the air a broadcaster praying out loud for God’s aid
That death or crippling injury He would forbade
The game was suspended and vigils in front of the hospital
formed
Praying for an athlete in the prime of shape and life whose life could be shorn
The next day though the game was needed for playoff standings
The NFL postponed the game’s reschedule until on his condition had a better
understanding
On that front the news is promising and Hamlin is awake, able to write
Asking who won the game that night after out went his lights
This weekend the Bills and Bengals will another team play
A stressful game as the image of an unconscious player will not soon fade away
