Ridley’s Believe It Or Not January 20, 2023
Noted Holidays: National Camcorder Day, Not sure who created this day to honor the introduction of camcorders by SONY in 1983 but the ability to record and save video of events have become an integral part of our social fabric.
Word of the Day: The word of the day is “adoxography” which means good writing on a trivial subject which probably describes an good number to publish or perish syndrome in academia.
Number 1 Song of the Day: The number 1 song on this day in 1981 was “(Just Like) Starting Over by John Lennon on a run of 4 weeks following 1 in 1980 to share with 16 other songs achieving number 1 status while 10 acts achieved their first number 1 song.  Here is a music video with lyrics displayed of John Lennon performing “(Just Like) Starting Over”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZCxyOcvp5A
Noted Birthdays: Kelly Anne Conway, a political adviser, consultant, and the first woman to run a successful presidential campaign, born on this day in 1967 and best remembered for her fierce defense of President Trump, her battles with her husband who was an anti-Trumper and co-founder of the Lincoln Project, her two violations of the Hatch Act for disparaging attacks on sitting members of Congress and her battles with her liberal Tik-Tok influencer, rabidly anti-Trump daughter who threatened to seek emancipation from her.
Notable Events that occurred on January 20:
          1.     1937—Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John Nance Garner due to the 20th Amendment were inaugurated as president and vice president respectively
          2.     1942—15 Senior Nazi officials at a conference in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee met to discuss for 90 minutes the implementation of the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question” which would lead to the Holocaust which would result in the execution of millions of Jews and deaths of 7 of the participants through combat, execution or suicide and the rest either released or convicted and then released after serving a shortened sentence.
          3.     1961—John F. Kennedy was inaugurated as president becoming the youngest president to assume office and the first Catholic.
          4.     1991—The government of Sudan announced the application of Islamic law throughout the country further exacerbating and prolonging the bloody civil war between the Muslim north and the Christian south.
          5.     2021—At 78 Joe Biden was inaugurated as the oldest president in U.S. history and Kamala Harris was nominated as the first female vice president in U.S. history.
Quote of the DayReinhardt Heydrich, Head of the German SD and Conference Chair of the Wannsee Conference “… during the course of the Final Solution, the Jews will be deployed under appropriate supervision at a suitable form of labor deployment in the East. In large labor columns, separated by gender, able-bodied Jews will be brought to those regions to build roads, whereby a large number will doubtlessly be lost through natural reduction. Any final remnant that survives will doubtless consist of the elements most capable of resistance. They must be dealt with appropriately, since, representing the fruit of natural selection, they are to be regarded as the core of a new Jewish revival.”
