It would have had to have been a joy to behold
Homo sapiens from another clan asked to near a fire
and fight off the cold
Human history has been a skipped record of breaking
the peace
With force of arms to ownership of slaves, populations
and better standard of living increase
Needing a force of arms to the border secure
Strong enough to forces of evil bent on invasion to
deter
It should be very clear to all why we celebrate Veterans’ Day
Without those brave men and women who went without hesitation into harm’s way
The freedoms we cherish like press, speech, assembly
and be able to pursue an income necessities and luxuries of life we can pay
Without those veterans living or dead those cherished
freedoms would have faded away
The Greatest Generation surrendered its young to the
Great Spanish Flu
Watched the unemployment lines, jumpers through
windows when owners could not from the jaws of B/K pull the business through
A worldwide depression with the unfinished business of
the crippling reparations on the Treaty of Versailles
Inflation with wheelbarrows for cash deliveries and German industry gasping on
it last legs looking to dies
Our insulated world died on December 7, 1941
No more diplomatic double speak, time for the shooting
of all the guns
Americans men and women in all services answered the
call
A surprised attack which crippled the fleet but carriers
at sea to escape deadly fate of bombing at berth as the bombs started to fall
Although battered CRT, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
and all manner of social activist needs all
The U.S. Armed Forces are a powerful forces to be reckoned with
Whether enlisted, drafted, ROTC, Service Academy or
O.C.S. we thank on this day for our freedoms’ gifts
If you know a veteran, male or female, today is your
day to reach out
For his service throughout history to tyrannies rout
