Noted Holidays: Armed Forces Day: Created
by Louis Johnson, Secretary of Defense on August 31, 1949 announced that Air
Force Day, Army Day and Navy Day would be replaced by Armed Forces Day, the
first one of which was by Presidential Proclamation by President Truman on
February 27, 1950 to be celebrated on May 20 of that year to honor those
serving in the Armed Forces and celebrated in each year thereafter on the 3rd
Saturday in May.
