Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For June 22, 2020 The CV pandemic
across the planet continues with 132,798 new cases (a 1.48
% increase compared to a 1.14% increase yesterday) to bring the total to 9,126,677
cases, 3,767,604 of which are
active, 5,361,073 of which have been closed with 4,888,837 recoveries (91.19%
compared to yesterday’s 91.08%) and 472,236468,251 deaths
(8.81% compared to yesterday’s 8.91%); in the U.S. which has the dubious
distinction of leading the world in total cases and being hit with the of
reopening its economy, massive protests over the death of George Floyd and
Rayshard Brooks and a massive Trump rally in Tulsa creating concern of a spike
in new cases with new cases of 29,420 have brought total cases to 2,374,791 (a
.82% increase compared to yesterday’s .82% increase) with 1,268,018 active
cases of which 16,472 (16,506 yesterday) are in serious or critical condition
and 1,106,773 closures, 122,496 of which have been deaths (11.07% compared
to yesterday’s 11.13%) and 984,277 of which have
been recoveries (88.93% compared to yesterday’s 88.87%) (our death rate
percentages continue to improve since Cuomo repealed his order sending CV
positive patients on May 10 but remain higher than the world probably due to
idiots like Cuomo sending positive CV patients into nursing homes to infect the
residents and staff who then die and accounted for some 40% of our deaths and hopefully the number of cases will not
spike given the days of massive protests and riots over George Floyd’s and
Rayshard Brooks’ deaths) with 29,013,182 tests; finally after two shootings and
days of occupation the Mayor of Seattle has come to here senses and announced
the police will reoccupy the “CHOPS” section of Seattle; John Bolton who has drawn
ire from Trump supporters as a liar, a Judas betrayer and a man eager to sell
as many books as he can via his salacious expose will be facing dueling books
as Sarah Sanders released an excerpt from her book out later this fall which
portrays Bolton as an arrogant selfish man often unwilling on foreign trips to
travel on Air Force One or in common transportation when there with other members
of Trump’s visiting entourage (not sure if I want to put the price of Bolton’s
book into his pocket but I suspect it will reveal that he was an egotistical
spoiled Ivy Leaguer from Yale who was outraged his far right military
adventures advocated were not accepted by Trump whom Bolton probably considers
as a mental midget); Hidin’ Biden indicated that he will participate in 3
debates and his vice president nominee 1 but the Trump campaign is pressing for
more (since given his failing mental state the smart money is on Trump to
destroy Biden very quickly in the first debate and having more would probably
create too much sympathy for the failing Gaffer in Chief); the BLM and PC airbrush
our history continues unabated but has reached all time lows to attack the
Greatest Generation who served and died in WWII as a monument to the 500
Mecklenburg County, North Carolina residents who died at a cemetery was defaced
with a hammer and sickle and yellow paint (when do we finally say enough, sit
down and try to resolve the racial issues that divide us without the 24/7 ad
hominem attacks and destruction of our history); when in the not too distant
past armed protesters in Michigan descended on Witless Whitmer’s State Capitol
to protest her draconian lock-down orders, the MSM went ballistic but when
hundreds of armed black and white protesters descended upon the State Capitol
of Oklahoma from the MSM only the sounds of silence; hopefully the sound of gunfire
erupting across this land this weekend killing and wounding dozens of mostly victims
of color by mostly shooters of color might put a damper on the idiotic calls of
the left to defund the police; in Chicago (the Blue run poster city of why we
need more police not less and certainly not defunded), as of June 21, 2020, 1578
shootings of whom 280 have died (so much for the effectiveness of Chicago’s
stay at home order); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and
hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now
seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 127 behind Chicago with 153
murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is
this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind
eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the
left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which
have been more deadly and more numerous than random mass shootings?).
As always, I
hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for
this day in history, a musical link to the Everly Brothers, the
fact that you are still somewhat panurgic, and a quote by Gerhard Schröder on
the fall of the Berlin Wall, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any
memorable events like Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the

1. National HVAC Technicians Day--created by the ARS Rooters in 2016 to commemorate the efforts
of HVAC technicians to keep us cool in the summer heat waves and warm in the
winter and late fall frigid days.
2. National Onion Rings Day—many claimants to this popular deep fried snack going back as
far as 1804 but let’s go with A&W Rootbeer which introduced it to fast food
restaurants in the 1960’s.
3. 1960 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1960 on this day on a run of 5
weeks was “Cathy’s Clown” by the Everly Brothers. Here is a recording of
the song performed by them on Dick Clark’s American
Bandstand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3-E9JebDtU
Phil Everly, the youngest was a chain smoker for most of his career until quitting
in 2001 but not soon enough to prevent him from contracting COPD which killed him
on January 3, 2014; Don is still alive but no longer performing.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “panurgic” which means skilled at
all sorts or tasks which is today’s specialization is a disappearing trait.
5. Dying Doing What You Love Best--celebrating the birth on this day in 1947 of “Pistol
Pete Maravich noted high scoring college and professional basketball guard who
retired after 10 years in the NBA and then died in a pickup basketball game at
the age of 40 on January 5, 1988 from a heart attack caused by an undisclosed
heart aliment.
On this day
in:
a. 1944 to the joy of millions of
Americans serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, President Roosevelt signed into law
the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, better known as the G.I.Bill.
b. 1948 in a better late than never
King George VI of England gave up his title of Emperor of India some 6 months
after India had achieved independence.
c. 1969 the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland,
Ohio caught fire once again spurring the nation’s attention to the issue of
pollution of our waterways and leading to the passage of the Clean Water Act
and the creation of the EPA.
d. 1984 Virgin Atlantic Airways launched
commercial airline service from London’s Gatwick Airport.
e. 1990
with the demolition of the Berlin Wall having begun on June 13, 1990,
Checkpoint Charlie was officially disbanded.
Reflections
on the fall of the Berlin Wall:”The Wall was not brought down by Washington, Bonn or Moscow.
It was razed to the ground by the courageous and intrepid people, from both the
East and the West” Gerhard Schröder, former German Chancellor.
