When it comes to legumes, Lentils are in the basement rank

Only redeeming feature is that there is no need to soak overnight

But when it comes to soup grab your spoon and take this to the bank

Versus a minestrone, these lentils will winning the taste buds fight

Go to a great restaurant with patio on 17^th Street

Where fresh made not dried pasta you will only meet

Not like in Italy where the café lined streets may be narrow

But where one’s appetite needs a large barrow

Owned by a husband and wife not some impersonal Olive Garden chain

“Honey your lentil soup tops the charts” should be the refrain

Not just lentils in a bowl all by themselves

But mushrooms, carrots and treats from the wife’s shelves

Gardunos is more than a piece of Italy in only name

On a warm summer night, eat not and your taste buds will be crying “On you shame!”
