For 37 mushers the agony is over and 31st through 37th are probably wondering where they will spend their $1049 prize money. Five more mushers including the Berington twins almost mushing side by side have left Safety and all will be in Nome soon for well deserved cocktails. One musher rookie Laura Neese has left White Mountain, leaving Jodi Bailey to have it all to herself. 5 mushers including 63 yr. DeeDee Jonrove (47th) have left Elim with another five still resting there. In the back of the pack in a tight spread are five mushers who have left Shaktoolik just a few moments apart which might explained that after 10 day loneliness is not a good idea and may have agreed to race as a pack until Safety.

Rookie Roger Lee is in last place but do not know where he is after leaving Unalokleet I have to believe he is one very tired musher. Monica Zappa joined the list of six other mushers who dropped  out. The mushers coming out Shaktoolik are still 221 miles away from Nome so will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day mushing on the trail.
