Slants Win Against USPTO

Finally in the PC world that stifles discourse and freedom to ideas express,
A federal appellate ccurt rejects the USPTO’s attempts to freedom of speech suppress
Simon Tam the founder of the Slants the first all Asian-American band
Applied for a trademark which was rejected by the USPTO out of hand
The term Slants might be disparaging to Asians, a dreaded PC insult
Based on 1st Amendment rights the court overturned the results
This is not a case of a bunch of rednecks trying incite violence by creating a Yellow Peril fear
But a band of Asians marking their brand to listeners to be able to the Slants steer
The owner of the Redskins cannot believe his fortune unwrapped under the judicial Christmas Tree
At last a wound to the growing tide of PC suppression flooding free
Trademarks are a useful tool to expand sales and protect the brand
If a mark is deemed by consumers to be offensive, a wave of rejections will on the seller quickly land
The market will make its choice
The feds must never be the deciding voice
Classic case in point as ISIS runs unchecked cutting off heads
ISIS Pharmaceuticals changed its name so any connect to jihad the market would shed
Pity the poor idiots masquerading as students at an esteemed university as Yale
Signing a petition to ban the First Amendment shows stupidity beyond the pale
But to the left the First should only mean it is protected only if with them you agree
Such closed mind thinking would have prevented us from being the home of the brave and the land of the free
