October 30, 2018 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Mischief Night

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For October 30, 2018 Sadly, the rabbi of the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh is receiving hate mail for welcoming President Trump and Melania to come to his synagogue to meet with families of the 11 victims killed by anti-Semite Bowers; as two more caravans of illegal aliens are forming in Central America, news from the one in Mexico is that morale is plummeting and more and more people are dropping out opting to remain in Mexico or return to Honduras (Trump is stirring the pot as he announced his intent to by executive order rule that children of illegal aliens born here are not citizens a move to surely prompt legal challenge by the ACLU); conservatives have been handed another reason to get out the vote as leftist Barbara Streisand has indicated that she is thinking about moving to Canada if Republicans retain control of the House and Senate; on the Hollywood Hysteria front actor James Cromwell is spreading fear that their will be blood the in the streets if the Blues do not retake Congress (what a crock); police have recovered from Cesar Sayoc a list of 100 mail pipe bomb targets (this deranged individual should spend the rest of his worthless life in prison); the killing of two African-American shoppers at a Kroger supermarket in Jeffersontown, Kentucky is being investigated as a hate crime; Emanuel’s announcement that he will not seek reelection has not curbed the gun violence as through October 28, 2018, 2559 people mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of whom 421 have died (when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of mostly people of color by mostly people of color).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Bing Crosby, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that you are free of the need to nim  and a relevant quote from H.G. Wells on intentions of aliens, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Mischief Night—celebrated in England in the 19th Century as a way to practice harmless mischief like egging a house or coating a tree with toilet paper perhaps as a way to encourage a home owner to stock up on treats for Halloween.
2. Candy Corn Day—celebrating the ubiquitous Halloween candy first made by the Wunderlee Candy Company in the 1880’s.
3. 1942 Number One Song— the number one song in 1942 on a run of 11 weeks in that position was “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8Ozdqzjigg
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we moved from words beginning with “m” to words beginning with “n” is “nim” which means to steal which is what our politicians are doing to future generations with their runaway deficit spending.
5. Like Father Like Daughter—celebrating the birth on this day in 1981 of Ivanka Trump, the First Daughter and successful entrepreneur and author who sadly is often vilified by the left.
    On this day in:
a. 1938 Orson Welles broadcasted H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds, creating widespread anxiety that Earth was being invaded by aliens from Mars.
b. 1945 Jackie Robinson of the Kansas City Monarchs signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking the color line in Major League Baseball.
c.  1947 the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trades was executed in Geneva, Switzerland.
d. 1961 due to violations of Lenin’s precepts the body of Joseph Stalin was moved from Lenin’s Tomb and reburied nearby with a plain tombstone.
e. 1995 Quebec voters by a slim margin of 50.58 to 49.42 voted to remain a province of Canada.
Reflections on the War of the Worlds: “Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious
eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us.” H.G.Wells.
