On August 21, 2017 parts of the U.S. were in a total solar
eclipse path
That came ashore in Oregon with Sun blotted out over Eugene
to reappear in several minutes aftermath
A Coast Starlight to Portland to arrive on the 20th
and then to Eugene drive
Parking at Eugene airport waiting as the private jets arrived
On the tarmac with wine and cheese to enjoy a rare event
Not disappointed as soon into darkness Eugene was sent
A total solar eclipse is an event for the bucket list
And cashing in on an opportunity to see one is hard to
resist
First one this poet witnessed was on March 7, 1970 at Yale
Darkness and temperature drop the amazement never ceases to fail
On April 8, 2024 the Continental U.S. will be treated to a
total solar eclipse once again
From Austin, Texas to Caribou, Maine the eclipse path will total darkness send
If you miss this one you will have to wait 21 years
For another total solar eclipse path to appear
If one is thinking to go, now is the time to reserve hotel
and transport
The word is now out and if you delay you may come up short
Won’t be able to ape Bing in a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court
But seeing a total solar eclipse will be enjoyment that will
not come up short
