When
one thinks of the Secret Service the images are of men and women ready to take
a bullet to protect the Commander in Chief
Look
only to the agent reaching for Mrs. Kennedy’s hand to jump into the limo to
protect JFK from further grief
Or
when Reagan took a bullet they were on Hinckley’s gun like a piranha swarm
The
best images of agents sworn to give their lives to protect the president from
harm
Even
in films like Line of Fire an aging Clint Eastwood who should retire
Without
hesitation heads to the sound of gunfire
Today
the images of the Secret Service are more like those of the Keystone Kops
Crashing
into barricades at the White House after partying nonstop
Or
while prepping security in a foreign land
Spending
time with ladies of the night, leaving not enough dollars on their nightstands
Or
allowing a man with a knife to burst unhindered through the White House front
door
How
many more failings do we have to endure or ignore?
Protecting
a president is not easy and potential threats must truly abound
But
not helped when they party to excess and crash into barriers on the White House
grounds
Worse
they probably reeked of alcohol on their breath
Should
have been cuffed and tested to prevent someone’s death
