FCC On Party Lines Adopts Net Neutrality

By strict party line vote the FCC bends to lame duck Obama’s will
Sure as the Sun will come up tomorrow look for taxes on your coming bill
The internet has been a success story beyond belief
Unfettered flow of data and expression free from government regulatory grief
Hundreds of pages of regulations most likely by the Blue Commissioners not read
Regulating the internet like a public utility is something we probably learn to dread
We have seen what happens when bureaucracies are given pens and an inexhaustible ink supply
Like in Obamacare, EPA, VA and IRS incompetency runs rampant and accountability withers and dies
Maybe we Americans are truly stupid and in internet usage bliss
The imagined issues calling for regulation we somehow missed
The growth of the internet and ecommerce has been a replication of Adam Smith’s Invisible Hand
Innovation and advance when a regulatory burden we did not have to try to withstand
Net neutrality has a nice euphemistic sound
How can one oppose something neutral--almost like taking the high ground?
But when the reality of increased, oppressive regulations comes to cyber town
And there is heard on YouTube the millennials’ howling outraged cry
Over slower speeds, taxes or higher prices; the millennials should any Blue at election time deny

Jihadi John We Know Who You Are

In a world of DNA and voice recognition you can run and mask but you cannot hide
Especially when the laws of humanity you chose not to abide
Despite showing only his eyes Jihadi John’s identity may have been disclosed
Mohammed Emwazi, a Kuwaiti born Brit who all Western values now opposed
Not yet known if he was present when the Iraqis on the Kuwaiti border came across
And the American led coalition prevented his family’s further personal and property loss
If ever we wanted a poster child of misguided Jihad to capture and not drone
Jihadi John is the one as he has his western roots disowned
Obama’s plan against ISIS has been solely to kill from the air
So our needed human intel cupboard is totally bare
If we cannot get a grip on what causes Europeans to Western values defect
And the sanctity of human life and tolerance for other views reject
Then Harf was partially right; we cannot kill enough Islamists to end this plight
To stop the flow of new martyr recruits anxious to enter into the fight
We know who he is and hopefully with bounties his location we will find
We need the special ops to bring him back and delve into his radicalized mind

The Garden State Weeds Gun Control Idiocy

In a victory for delayed common sense
New Jersey drops prosecution of a firearm offense
The Second Amendment in the Garden State when it comes to pistols barely exists
So the law abiding citizens are stripped of their means to attacks on their safety resist
The felons never believe they will be caught
But the unarmed New Jersey citizen in a crime could very well be shot
New Jersey had recently become a laughing stock
Arresting a retired teacher for possession of a 255 year old Queen Ann flintlock
A one shot pistol, less a firearm and more a piece of art
Why the police from common sense had to depart
The law against pistols does not exempt collector antiques
So the retired Van Gilder was without a paddle up the proverbial creek
May be impossible in this Blue leaning state to this law amend
So another law abiding collector to jail it does not send
Before this day while New Jersey was groping in the idiocy fog
This poet was pleased to have been on the right side of reason with his prior blog

Delusional Kerry Calls World a Safer Place

The referendum on the legalization of pot was by two thirds of D.C. residents approved
For two ounces and six plants the threat of incarceration has been removed
But the measure did not go into effect until Thursday morning at 12:01
Listening to Kerry testifying on the absence of terror reveals he may have jumped the gun
What was Kerry smoking?
Pray to God, he had to have been joking
The world is not a safer place and Islamic extremists are on the move
While this Administration cannot even the use of the phrase approve
Boko Haram is killing by the hundreds; Ukraine is a bloody mess
Christians in the Middle East are under increasing radical Islamic stress
21 Christians in Libya have had their heads chopped off
ISIS, Boko Haram, Al Qaeda and radical Islam at us scoff
The Kurds are trying to hold their own without the weapons they need
What is the next arena where radical Islam plants and germinates more terror seeds?
Putin eyes the Baltics, and Iran is inching relentlessly toward a nuke
Netanyahu’s upcoming address is by the video fantasy queen, Rice, given a rebuke
The safest state on Earth from terror, Alaska now joins the other 49
FBI now monitoring terror here as part of a counter terrorism design
Clapper today before Congress is trying to set the record straight
Attacks and deaths from Islamic jihadists are increasing and do not abate
All in the context of a U.S. military that is on a funding diet that would make Nutrisystems envy
Kerry’s delusion notwithstanding, the world is getting more and more deadly!

Foreign Government Contributions To Clinton Foundation Ethical?

If you want to find ethics corrupted, without fail
All you have to do is follow the money trail
The Clinton Foundation while Hillary was Secretary of State from foreign governments was raking in the cash
The conflicts of interest barriers it would seem thrown into the trash
Appearances of impropriety however slight do matter and should be avoided like the plague
Taking money from foreign governments for Clinton’s run is a fuse lit powder keg
It takes a great suspension of disbelief to believe the absence of a quid pro quo
When foreign governments seeking favors are plying the Clinton Foundation with dough
Algeria was lobbying tooth and nail on the issue of human rights
500 grand from Algeria nondisclosed to State coming in like a thief in the night
Whether in the agreement with the Obama Administration had exceptions is not germane
Ethics 101 would have required Clinton to in the pursuit of foreign funds abstain
Sadly because the press, save Fox, is chomping at the bit
For her to declare and be crowned, any inquiry on impropriety the press will not admit

Ridley's Believe It Or Not February 26 History National Pistachio Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not—February 26, 2015 Trust your Thursday is off to a great start and you are anxiously awaiting the start of the Iditarod in 11 days (when it starts properly befitting my Alaskan heritage and homage to the Last Great Race on Earth,I will post daily race standings). As always, I  hope you enjoy the meager holidays and observances, factoids and relevant quotes by Ronald Reagan with a smile on your face, enjoying a handful of pistachios, blessed  with a positive attitude even though you know you will have to wade through tons of spam in your inbox, and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient.  You need only contact me for details.

On this day in
     a. 1815 Napoleon escaped from exile on the island of Elba bring Europe into war which culminated in his defeat at Waterloo by the combined forces of Great Britain, Prussia and Russia.

     c. 1935 Robert Watson-Watt carried out a demonstration at Daventry which led to the development of radar, without which Great Britain most likely would have the lost the Battle of Britain.

     e. 1993 in another radical Islamic terrorist act, a truck bomb went off in the parking garage of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, killing six and injuring approximately 1,000 people. .
Reflections on how a leader mans up to when he was wrong and deceiving of the American people, something our current President is psychologically incapable of doing.
“In spite of the wildly speculative and false stories of arms for hostages and alleged ransom payments, we did not—repeat, did not—trade weapons or anything else for hostages, nor will we." Ronald Reagan, denying the Iran-Contra Affair, November 1986
"A few months ago, I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that's true, but the facts and evidence tell me it is not." - Ronald Reagan, admitting the Iran-Contra Affair, March 1987

APS Paper On Safest Place In Zombie Outbeak--Kid You Not!

The American Physics Society has in the promotion of physics been in the forefront
Willing to the difficult issues facing science to with reasoned studies and papers confront
United in attempts to cuts in federal science research dollars blunt
Having so extolled this latest paper seems to be quite a stunt
The good news is that there appears to be a lack of a federal grant
The bad news is that discussion of serious issues it would seem to supplant
A report on climate change or the evils of nuclear waste and power?
No something not worthy of coming from Cornell's lofty ivory towers
The report to be delivered at the annual meeting has chosen a critical subject
Where to go in the event of a Zombie outbreak and it try to check
Makes one wonder and in dismay shake one’s head
Zombies are a figment of film and do not come back from the dead
The report’s conclusion is the highly populated East would be toast
Likewise California and most of the West Coast
Head to the Rockies ASAP is the report’s advice which is partially sound
Not enough people there to get bitten and quickly have the Zombies abound
Better advice would be to head to Alaska with its glaciers, mountains and Southeastern isles
With hearty residents sparsely populating its wilderness square miles

Zombies on glaciers could only slip and fall
Any attempt to catch more agile humans would completely stall
Plus the Zombies can’t swim nor find warm weather gear
Our intrepid human survivors in Alaska would have little to fear
If perchance we would be blessed or cursed depending on your beliefs with a Zombie attack
A lot of liberal Blues especially in California and NYC would not be coming back.

Wave Goodbye to Fat at Nutrishop

Enroute to Starbucks at the corner of 17th and Newport
To refill my caffeine levels that seem to be coming up short
Under the warm Costa Mesa skies
Was treated to a very pleasant surprise
If you are looking for the chance to talk with a proof of results female
Suggest you stop at Nutrishop and see what’s on sale
Zoe has set up an outdoor booth on the sidewalk
Armed with an outgoing personality, a  smile and not an ounce of fat
Selling Thermovex and  one glance at her and you will want a jar of that
Tastes great and the fat melts away like ice cream on a hot summer day
Even love handles that as one ages seem impossible to rid to one's dismay
Got my sample got my discount card and looking at her a motivation to it try
And with a 25% discount a great reason to buy
Not sure if a Starbucks will give the fat burners a boost
Good time to try as the effects of not enough exercise come home to roost.

Three Arrested At NYC Airport En Route To ISIS

The news out of New York City should cause us to pause
Three Muslim men were arrested trying to fly to Istanbul to join the ISIS cause
If convicted they are facing 15 years a penalty not enough to deter
More men and women falling under ISIS’s barbaric lure
In this war on terror their actions have a treason ring
Send them off to Gitmo and into their cell a hangman’s noose to bring
Caught online professing terror support
Somehow the needles found in the cyber haystack and their plans came up short
The NTPD under the current mayor no longer monitors the mosques for jihadist schemes
The NYPD pulling back has to have fulfilled the radicals’ fondest dreams
We got lucky this time with three less fanatics to receive combat experience and then return
Needing only a terrorist act on our soil martyrdom to be earned.

Senior State Dempartment Man Stung Soliciting for Minors for Sex

Caveat emptor or buyer beware has been always sound advice to a buyer of services or goods
One should always kick the tires and look carefully at what is under the hood
In the internet world of dating or seeking to fulfill one’s need for lust
Even more so as there is little reason to have much trust
Photos may be fake, ages and weight suspect
Truth and honesty in the pursuit of pleasure to easy to reject
The news out today that Daniel Rosen a senior State Department employee tasked with fighting terror
Found to his horror that he has made a fatal, job security error
Going online soliciting not for a date or relationship but for a minor to engage in sex
The kind of behavior men of decency and honor and morals would completely reject
The “minor” was a female detective playing the amorous minor female role
Pretending to be looking forward to an encounter with this pervert’s love pole
Imagine Rosen’s surprise when panting in anticipation, he opened his front door
Know after all his online efforts on a minor he expected to score
Only to be cast in a reverse role in 50 Shades of Gray
Cuffed and then to jail being led away
If guilty he would be advised to a story concoct
Like being arrested for DUI as child molesters are despised in most cell blocks.

Ridley's Believe It Or Not February 25 History National Clam Chowder Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not—February 25, 2015 Trust your Hump Day is off to a great start in 12 days (when it starts properly befitting my Alaskan heritage and homage to the Last Great Race on Earth I will post daily race standings). As always, I  hope you enjoy the meager holidays and observances, factoids and relevant quote by George Harrison with a smile on your face, enjoying a margarita, blessed  with a positive attitude even though you know you will have to wade through tons of spam in your inbox, and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient.  You need only contact me for details.
       1. Plum Blossom Day—celebrated at the Kitano-Tenman gu shrine built in 947 at Kyoto, Japan to appease the angry spirit of the bureaucrat, scholar and poet Sugawara no Michizane, who had been exiled as a result of political maneuvers of his enemies in the Fujiwara clan.
       2. Yellow Ribbon Daycelebrated in the Philippines and commemorating a peaceful, nonviolent protests that led to the removal in 1986 of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his wife Imelda and her collection of over one thousand pairs of shoes.
       3. 1967 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song on this day in 1967, as part of a 2 week run but a million records sold Kind of a Drag by the Buckinghams, an American sunshine pop band that was one of the first rock bands in the 60’s to institute the practice of meet and greets for their fans after concerts, a practice which the groupies attending must have loved.
        4. National Clam Chowder Day—great way to warm one’s soul during a cold winter day; if you are making New England clam chowder, go easy on the potatoes, heavy on the clams, don’t forget the bacon and sauté the minced onions. If you prefer Manhattan clam chowder go to any Enterprise Seafood Company Restaurant.
        5. Here Comes the Sun Day—commemorating not the appearance of the warming sun that snow weary New Englanders anxiously await but rather the birthday on this day in 1943 of the lead guitarist of the Beatles, George Harrison, who like so many smokers before him and sadly after, died way too early of lung cancer at the age of 58.
On this day in
     a. 1836 Samuel Colt received a patent for his revolving cylinder pistol.
     b. 1870 Hiram Rhodes Revels, an African American and Republican, was sworn in as a Senator from Mississippi, the first African American to serve in Congress.
     c. 1928 Charles Jenkins Laboratories of Washington, D.C. was issued the first television broadcast by the Federal Radio Commission.
     d. 1956 Nikita Khrushchev in a speech before the Politburo denounced the cult of personality of Joseph Stalin, a speech that could never have been made while Stalin was alive.
     e. 1987 SMU’s football program was given the death sentence by the NCAA for having a slush fund dating back to 1981 to funnel illegal payments to its football players.
Reflections on the here and now: “It's being here now that's important. There's no past and there's no future. Time is a very misleading thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can't relive it; and we can hope for the future, but we don't know if there is one.”  George Harrison Wise words but often very hard to follow.

Ridley's Believe It Or Not February 24 History Dragobete

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not—February 24, 2015 Trust your Taco or better yet Popeye’s two piece $1.29 Tuesday is off to a great start and you are still anxiously awaiting the start of the Iditarod in 13 days (when it starts properly befitting my Alaskan heritage and homage to the Last Great Race on Earth I will post daily standings). As always, I  hope you enjoy the holidays and observances, factoids and relevant quote by Admiral Nimitz with a smile on your face, enjoying a margarita, blessed  with a positive attitude even though you know you will have to wade through tons of spam in your inbox, and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable event like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient.  You need only contact me for details.
       1. Dragobete—celebrated in Romania to mark the end of winter and the beginning of spring; known as “the day the birds are betrothed” to build their nests and mate—an avian Valentines’ Day if you will. So if you missed out on Valentines’ Day, another chance.
       2. Museum Advocacy Daycelebrating a day to advocate continued funding of museums and to charge up your advocacy batteries, try to spend some time there today; if we do not preserve our past, we dilute the present and impair our future.
       3. 1966 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song on this day in 1965, as part of a 1 week run These Boots Are Made For Walking by Nancy Sinatra.
        4. National Tortilla Chip Day—great way to utilize any surplus avocadoes or salsa by uniting them with tortilla chips.
        5. No Excuse Day—commemorating the birthday of a great entrepreneur with a marketing slogan of “Just do it,” Phil Knight, born on this day in 1938 and co-founder of Nike.
On this day in
     a. 1868 President Andrew Johnson became the first president to be impeached; he failed to be convicted by one vote. President Clinton over one hundred years later having been the second president to be impeached easily avoided a guilty verdict due to unanimous Democratic support.
     b. 1917 the U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain received a copy of the Zimmerman telegram to Mexico in which Germany pledged to insure Mexico the return of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona to Mexico if it would declare war on the U.S. This was the straw that broke Wilson’s back on avoiding involvement in World War I and less than two months later he appeared before Congress to seek a declaration of war against Germany.
     c. 1920 in a dark day for humanity the Nazi party was founded.
     d. 1983 in a better late than never moment a special commission of the Congress released a report condemning the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II—really a sad moment in American history.
     e. 1989 in a moment that should bring into clear focus why our values of free expression are diametrically opposed to Islam, Ayatollah Khomeini  announced a $3 million bounty for the execution of Salman Rushdie, the author of the Satanic Verses; at least the Nazis only burned books not the living authors while these fanatics as Charlie Hebdo shows want to kill the authors.
Reflections on why we must never, ever not subject the federal government to the utmost critical review of its actions: “The Japanese race is an enemy race and while many second and third generation Japanese born on United States soil possessed of U.S. citizenship have become “Americanized” the racial strains are undiluted. It then follows that along the vital Pacific Coast over 112,000 potential enemies, of Japanese extraction, are at large today. There are indications that these were organized and ready for concerted action at a favorable opportunity. The very fact that no sabotage has taken place to date is a disturbing and confirming indication that such action will be taken...” —  DeWitt’s Final Report: Japanese Evacuation from the West Coast, 1942, and the government’s brief to the Supreme Court defending Ex. Order 9066. What makes the stain on this country’s reputation due to internment even darker is the fact that the sons of these wrongfully interned citizens serving in the 442nd Regimental Combat in Europe won 21 Medals of Honor and the unit was the most decorated unit in the U.S. Army.

From Funk Zone To Wet Zone Santa Barbara's Desalinization Plant

Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink
Santa Barbara is on a Stage III drought brink
Lawns dead, pools empty,  flowers wilt
At least a desalinization plant already built
In a modern day rain dance when the plant was fired up
The skies opened and from the clouds a monsoon did erupt
For 16 years sitting idle in the Funk Zone
With Santa Barbara now dry with the next rain unknown
Time to spend 40 million for the plant to restart
Set Santa Barbara from the rest of the drought a city apart
Before the residents get ready to fill their pools and water their lawns
If the Coastal Commission does not approve, the chance for water is long gone
Probably more carbon from the plant to be released into the air
With the eco-Greens infecting California,  such an act would not square
But if the ocean waters are in fact beginning to rise
Here is a way to meet that unwelcome surprise
Build along our coasts desalinization plants powered by nuclear power
Create lakes on land of fresh water so never again are we at the whims of Mother Nature’s lack of showers
