1. Learn Lei Feng Day—celebrated since his the death of Lei Feng, a 21 year old PLA soldier who died in 1962 and was venerated in China for a selfless devotion to the Communist Party, Mao and the Chinese people although the jury is out as to the extent to which he was merely a propaganda figment other than a real person.
2. End of Purim—a two day Jewish holiday commemorating the foiling of a plot by a tyrant Haman and his execution in Persia (Iran) to kill the Jewish people there as revealed in the Book of Ester in the Old Testament.
3. 1973 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song on this day in 1973, as part of a 4 week run Killing Me Softly With His Song by Roberta Flack, an Afro-American singer who became the first person to win the Grammy for Best Song of the Year in two consecutive years.
4. National Cheese Doodle Day—created in the 40’s by Morrie Yohai, a cheese doodle is a piece of cornmeal, puffed, baked and coated with cheese; never had one but sounds tasty.
5. Noodles Are Your Friends Day—commemorating the birthday on this day in 1910 of Momofuku Ando, the inventor of instant noodles and the founder of Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd and featured in a Google Doodle today.

a. 1616 Nicolas Copernicus’ book De Revolutionibus Orbitium Coelestium was banned by the Catholic Church due to its theory that the Earth and the then known planets revolved around the Sun and not vice versa.
b. 1770 5 Americans were shot and killed on the streets of Boston by British troops, an event which became known as the Boston Massacre and inflamed public opinion against the British.
c. 1933 Franklin Roosevelt declared a “bank holiday,” closing all banks and imposing a freeze on all financial transactions as the Great Depression was beginning to intensify.
d. 1975 the first meeting of the Homebrew Computer Club took place in a garage in Menlo Park attended by the individuals who went on to found several computer companies like Apple and Osborne Computers.
e. 2012 Invisible Children released a short video Stop Kony 2012 to create public awareness of the need to track down Joseph Kony, a Ugandan terrorist and war criminal and bring him to justice. The video went viral with more than a 100 million viewings.
