and country western singer with numerous Grammies and over 100 million records
sold in her career. 4. National Potato Chip Day—great snack that has been with us since created by George Crum, a half black, half Native American cook at Moon’s Lake House, Sarasota Springs, New York on August 24, 1853.
5. Mooning Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1928 of Frank Borman commander of Apollo 8, the first manned spacecraft to orbit the Moon.

a. 1794 Eli Whitney received a patent for the cotton gin.
b. 1910 the Lakeview Gusher Number One, near Taft, CA vented into the atmosphere and continued to do so for 18 months spilling 8 million barrels of oil.
c. 1942 Doctor John Bumstead and Doctor Orvan Hess became the first to successfully treat a patient suffering from streptococcal septicemia with penicillin produced in the U.S.
d. 1994 Linus 1.0.0 was released.
e. 1995 Norman Thagard become the first American astronaut to be launched into space by a Russian launch vehicle; sadly given the demise of the Shuttle program he was not the last American astronaut hitchhiker.
Reflections on Earth from a lunar perspective being a Good Samaritan: “When you are finally up on the moon, looking back at the earth, all these differences and nationalistic traits are pretty well going to blend and you are going to get a concept that maybe this really is one world and why in hell can we not learn to live together like decent people.” Frank Borman Astute words but not listened to by large segments of the Earth’s population.
