1. Hinamatsuri Day (Japan)--commemorating
if fortunate enough to be in Japan today the display of miniature dolls
portraying royalty and court attendants from the Heian Period of Japan.
2. National Anthem Day—commemorating the adoption of the Star Spangled Banner with its difficult
notes in eflat on this day in 1931.
3. 1971 Number One Song—celebrating
the number one song on this day in 1971, as part of a 5 week run One Bad Apple by the Osmonds, a Mormon family band that sold over 100 million
records and whose only female sibling is seen daily on Nutrisystems commercials.
4. National Cold Cuts Day—thanks to the Earl of Sandwich for
creating the need for those tasty slices of protein to put between two slices
of bread adorned with condiments.
5. National
Pancake Day—celebrating at
least at IHOP free buttermilk pancakes with a suggestion to make a contribution
to Children’s Miracle Hospitals.
6. Blonde Bombshell Day—commemorating
the birthday on this day in 1911 of one of the icon actresses of the 30’s, an
epitome of sexuality, Jean Harlow who died from kidney failure at the age of
26.
On this day ina. 1776 the U.S. Marine Corps in its first amphibious operation came ashore to seize British stores of gunpowder at Nassau, Bermuda.
b. 1873 in a blow to the First Amendment, the U.S. Congress passed the Comstock Act, which prevented the use of the mail to send obscene, lewd or lascivious books.
c. 1923 Time magazine was published for the first time.
d. 1938 in a great moment for the Bedouins of Saudi Arabia, oil was discovered.
e. 1991 an amateur video recorded the beating of Rodney King by the LAPD.
